I was in the audience the night Angel danced Basilio in Quixote for the first time at the Met. He was new to the company and was a soloist at the time. What a spectacular evening. To this day, I have never heard such cheers from the audience at a ballet as I did that night. It was a truly remarkable experience for me. I was on cloud 9 when I took the subway back to Brooklyn that night.
I also remember seeing Angel hobble down the steps with crutches of the Lincoln Center subway stop in the late 90s when he had a major leg injury.
It's also nice to see that Herman Cornejo is a principal. When I saw him dancing in the corp, I knew he would make his way up the ranks. A very nice guy himself.
