So I was just thinking about this after posting in the "What are you reading?" thread.

Has anyone read this book or seen this movie? I remember I saw this movie in the 4th grade, it was my first real look into the slavery issue. I cried and cried and cried, went home and cried some more. I'm so grateful to my teacher for showing this to the class though, it taught me a lot!
Well now I have to read the book for ILA class, still sooo sad even 4 years later!!

I LOVED this book when I was a kid! I remember in 7th grade we had to do our own autobiography so I called mine "The Autobiography of Miss (insert real first and last name)". And then when the movie came on, I was so excited. Loved it too!!

Cicely Tyson is a goddess and she gave one of the GREAT performances in the film version. I haven't seen it in years, but still remember it vividly -- what a tour de force.

Have always loved the movie (what a great teaching tool) and the book has also been a favorite.

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien
