Found an impressively well-done article debunking the "Sin of Sodomy was homosexuality" argument that is driving fundamentalists to the polls.

An interesting little tidbit:

Ya,da´ is a Hebrew verb which is commonly translated as "know." Its meaning is ambiguous. It appears 943 times elsewhere in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). Usually it means "to know a fact." In only about a dozen of these cases does it refers to sexual activity; in these instances, the sexual meaning is always obvious. The text generally talks about a man "knowing" a woman and of her conceiving a child as a result of the "knowing." All such references involve heterosexual relationships.

So, 931 or so times it obviously means having knowledge of a fact. 12 times (roughly) it means sex.
That the ambiguity of what the Sodomites are suggesting would automatically mean sex in this case just reeks of reactionism and seeking to create a conflict.

Also keep in mind that the balance of Biblical text on Sodom describes the sin of Sodom very rarely as sexual (and when it does, the thrust is NEVER homosexual, but rape-based and sex between men and angels). Most of the time, it is the sin of being arrogant and un-hospitable.

Which is also the definition of gay sex for many.

None of the A-list gays went to Sodom. It was ALL about Gomorrah.
