Posted: 1/19/06 at 5:05pmGiven yesterday's horrendous weather , the big blackout on the East Coast came to mind. I think, if my memory serves me correct, it was in 1965. I was in third grade and was discussing a homework assignment over the phone with another student. The phone suddenly went dead and then the power went out. My mother was in the kitchen frying veal cutlets on our electric stove. I remember going to a friend's house to finish cooking dinner because they had a gas stove. We played with the flashlights and told ghost stories. As a child, I though the whole thing was fun and more like a game.

Posted: 1/19/06 at 5:32pmI was a not quite three at the time... but I heard stories from my dad, who was stuck on a soundstage for a TV show when they went out. Needless to say, shooting was finished for the day. He (and many others) had to walk home about 30 blocks. My mom just lit candles in the apartment and waited for my dad to get home.

Nine years old and I was in Hebrew school. They sent us home when the lights went out. This kid Steven Goldberg wondered if we would have electricity as we lived about 10 blocks away. (We didn't)
My transistor told us it was from Canada to like Virginia. It was 1965.
