Dan Brown's other books are crap too. Who's with me?
I've only read THE DA VINCI CODE, but it was so poorly written, I'll never read another by him.
all of his books are SO predictable and formulaic after you've read just one, but nevertheless, his books are an entertaining easy read.

Yes, THE DA VINCI CODE was entertaining. I bought a paperback of it in Europe last summer and got so caught up with it that I could do little else but read it! However, I figured it out about 200 pages before the denouement--although I didn't anticipate the introduction of a new character at the end.
It's over-plotted, for sure.
Well I read the DaVinci Code in one nights sitting and I thought it was decent. It was hardly as good as I hoped it would be given all the hype but I took that to be because I'd taken a class which talked about theories etc and it covered virtually everything in the book- before the book came out. I've never read his other books though.

I just finished the Da Vinci Code. Dan Brown did over explain things, but it was an enjoyable read.
I actually like Angels and Demons better than the Da Vinci code. Better Story, bigger potential losses. Dan Brown is not a great writer, but I like him because he tells great stories. Angels and Demons is definately a must read if you like the Da Vinci code. I am also excited for the movie that is coming out. (SPOILER!!!)I think Ian Mckellen is a great choice for the villian
I thought the DaVinci Code stunk, but somehow started reading Angels and Demons because a friend thought it was really good...they were wrong. He is not a good writer, and I hate superheroes who never go to the bathroom or eat!

Come on...you cant tell me that in A&D, when the main character was stuck under a sarcophogus, he didnt wet his pants!
I thought it was an entertaining read. I also liked Dan Browns "Deception Point".
I think he's an awful storyteller with some great storylines, although I remember thinking nothing can kill a show like too much exposition! A 13-year-old could have written better descriptions and dialogue than he did, and a lot of the theories - while compelling - put too much weight on the hokiest of evidence. ("M" for "Mary" or "Marriage" in the Last Supper? Oh puh-lease.) But I re-read it in Europe and visited a lot of the sites that are mentioned, and it forced me to look at art, architecture, history and religion in a new way, and want to learn more about them.
The book seemed like an enormous film treatment - it will probably be more effective on screen than on paper. I'm not thrilled will the cast as it is and I normally don't like Ron Howard films (but he did do Ransom, so he's somewhat familiar with the action-suspense genre) - any thoughts on the casting?

I had so much fun reading it and following this treasure hunt...but I thought it came off as rather pretentious. Brown explained things often in ways that I felt like he was just trying to show the reader how much he knows...I don't care what HE knows.
Da Vinci Code was a fun read. I found it very interesting. Never read his other stuff, though.
