I just saw an incredible show which was a series of two plays and two monologues called The Date Play by Lee Gundersheimer and Melissa Osborne. The two, show stealing monologues were truthfully performed by two outstanding actors: Matt Walters and Tracey Toomey. Melissa Osborne's words touched the audience through believable, natural writing and relatable material which was in perfect harmony with the honest performances of the actors. These were the most brilliant performances I have ever seen. Matt Berger was hilarious as Brian, the endearing, loveable nerd. Fantastic writing on the part of Lee Gundersheimer, as he turns a one act play set in a disco lounge in the eighties into a fascinating examination of human needs and behavior. Gundersheimer seamlessly bonds comedy and social commentary in an innovative way, proving that although culture changes, human dilemmas stay constant throughout time. Every actor possessed boundless charm and allowed the beauty of the text to resonate with the audience. The actors were not only aided by the text but by the excellent lighting design created by Christina See. This is a play you will be thinking about long after you leave the theater. It is running through February 10th and is well worth seeing.
