I just discovered that The Flaming Lips released a new album, King’s Mouth: Music and Songs on Friday. After listening to it and loving it on Apple Music, I decided I needed it on vinyl. (I recently bought a record player and have been adding to my record collection at a.steady clip since)
So I found it on Amazon and ordered it, but quickest I can get it is August 12 - 28 (estimated). Looking elsewhere, it seems like it is out of stock even on The Flaming Lips official store website. I went ahead and ordered it on Amazon, but then discovered it on Barnes & Noble with ability to deliver it to me next Monday. So I ordered it there too.
I’m aware now that for Record Store Day in April they released a gold vinyl version of the album with a limited pressing of 4,000. I’m wondering if this too might be a vinyl limited pressing? So far, I can’t see any reference to that. Also, wondering if maybe they did a limited first pressing (with more to come). If so, not sure if it would be valuable to keep both orders (I haven’t cancelled Amazon order yet as I wanted to make sure B&N can fulfill [i.e. ship] the order first). Each was only around $20 total.
Anyone knowledgeable about collecting vinyl, The Flaming Lips (I’m a casual admirer although we do have an Oklahoma connection) fanbase, or this specific album release? If I keep both orders, I’ll play one and keep other in mint condition. But if it’s not likely to become collectors item, I’ll cancel Amazon order once B&N order ships. Thanks in advance for your help!
