There's a fascianting report in the 11/18 LA Times that I heard discussed last night on Air America- and no where else. We've done so much to fight the "Global War on Terror (GWOT)"- has it been worth it? What results have been yielded by holding suspects without counsel, conducting warrentless wiretaps and of course, the 3,800+ US casualties? The numbers speak for themselves:
World Wide terrorist attacks in 2001: 1,732
World Wide terrorist attacks in 2006: 6,659
Number of people detained at Guantanamo since 1/2002: 775
Number of those Detainees released: 470
Number of detainees convicted of ANY crime: ZERO
Number of foreign nationals deported in conenction with 9/11: 515
Number of those proven connected to any terrorism: ZERO
Number of "terrorism related" convictions claimed by the US Justice Department as of 6/2006: 261
Number of those cases actually involving terrorism: 2
