Which deserved the Best Picture Oscar?
And which deserved Best Director?
THE GODFATHER
I kind of liked the way it turned out, so both got honored. Kind of like with Shakespeare in Love and Saving Private Ryan. Plus, Coppala ended up winning for Part II. Updated On: 8/29/04 at 05:17 PM
I didn't want to start a new topic on this, so:
From IMDB.com:
""Tomorrow Belongs to Me" was written by John Kander and Fred Ebb in the style of a traditional German song, sung by the Nazi youth in the movie, to stir up patriotism for the "fatherland". It has often been mistaken for a genuine "Nazi anthem" and has led to the songwriters being accused of anti-Semitism. This would be most surprising, as they are, in fact, Jewish. It is also the only song sung outside of the cabaret setting to survive the transition from stage to film."
Does anyone else find this scene in the film fantastically and disgustingly creepy?
Hard as it is to believe, I haven't seen the movie. It was awfully creepy live, though. How is it done in the movie?
Okay. You have no excuse. Go get the movie and watch it. I don't want to ruin anything for you.
I know, I know. I have no excuse... for a while after the show closed, I just couldn't get myself to sit down and watch the movie because I wanted to remember it just as I had seen it. I've been afraid that the movie will ruin my love for the show. I know it's stupid... I'm going to see it.
The interpretations are indeed different.
But both are great.
And Joel Grey's emcee is deliciously eriee. Just seeing a picture of him creeps me out.

I've never actually seen The Godfather. I've just never been interested in seeing any of them. But I have seen Cabaret many, many times and it's my all time favorite movie. I like how Liza, Joel, and Fosse won, but Best Picture would have been nice.

It's even eerier in the movie. Max, "Brian" and Sally are in the countryside, and there's a closeup of a young fair-haired boy who starts singing the song. And at first, you just think it's a hopeful song, maybe a bit patriotic. But then he puts on his hat, and the camera pans back and you see the swastika on his arm - it completely freaks you out! And he's joined by the rest of the people in the town as they drone on this scary fascist song! Very, very creepy.
what's even eerier is that during the last part of the song u see emcee and he stares straight into the camera with this evil grin on his face shaking his head "yes"....creeeeeeeepy.
Marquise....that part is indeed creepier than sin.
Fosse was a genius.
