The HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL phenomenon.

My problem is with the ridiculous amount of marketing and merchandising they do. From bubble bath to clothing to lunch boxes to bedding to school supplies to flip flops....it's totally insane. Not a day goes by that I don't see one of the kids at school with a HSM t-shirt or bookbag.

I love these movies. Yes they're cheesy but like most of the previous posters have stated, they send a good message and they're getting younger kids into more musicals.
I love the first one and thought the second one was just okay, but I thought the third one was really great. The production numbers were huge and had really fantastic choreography, I really was blown away in some scenes.

S.Wendy - I agree with the disdain for over-marketing, but it can hardly be limited to a critique of this franchise. It's become the goal of everyone to find a way to milk just one more penny out of a situation.
I'd still rather see this 'product' embraced than something like the odious Bratz merchandise.

the fact that li'l nekkid vanny's still working says a lot about how disney has changed.

Posted: 10/27/08 at 11:57amI saw HSM3 with a friend this weekend and was actually kind of impressed. The singing, as usual, was mediocre, but the dancing (imo) was really cool, especially the "The Boys Are Back" number. It's certainly not great art or anything like that but it is fun, not to mention catchy :)

#30High School Musical, who says we have to let it go?

I got to see HSM3 for free in an entirely empty theater, and laugh at is as much as I want without hurting any 9 year old's feelings. So I'm totally up on High School Musical right now.
I pretty much love the High School Musical franchise, to be honest. I bought my nephew the first one last Christmas (he wanted it, and I loved the chance to torture my brother like that). If he's still untouched by the internal homophobia that would shame him away from it? I'll totally buy him the third one.
