Or do you belive that they are comprised deep thoughts and feelings bubbling to the surface of your subconciousness? Or do you perhaps have a religious interpretation of them?

Oh, boy...this could be a long night...
While Freudians write off dreams as an expression of the individual subconscious, Jung and the spiritualist or religious folks seem much more on target to me.
Remember the dream of Pharoah which Moses interpreted, the seven fat cows followed by seven lean ones which meant seven good harvests followed by seven bad ones? So prophecy can come in dreams, however, the communication is often visual and symbolic.
Dreamtime can also encompass astral projection to other places; flying dreams can be an example of this as well. Visits and messages from the dead can come in dreams, even dead pets can show up. The living can contact each other as well.
You can wake up inside a dream and realize you are having a lucid dream, even then control what happens in it and the shape it takes.
You can resolve a problem while dreaming, or get artistic inspiration from its messages. I like the ones where you have lost something and have been hunting for it and you wake up and know where it is...
