I had no idea this was already on DVD. Busch is my idol, I've been dying to see this. To the top of my Netflix queue it goes.

I really liked this. I do wish it had been better edited, but it wasn't enough to ruin it for me, by any means. It's such a great story to tell - and he comes across as such a perfectly lovely man.

I've always thought that, too.

Yes, this was very poorly edited. Charles begins telling a story about how he was hospitalized and they stop and show a 45 second clip to one of his shows. They then go back and he proceeeds for a few more sentences and they cut away again and so on. A 2 minute story ended taking about 4 or 5 minutes.

It was fun seeing his early work, some I never even heard of. I only heard of him throught the movie "Pyscho Beach Party". It was really neat to see his apartment. I felt like I was a guest and he was having me over to talk.He really seems like a genuine sweet guy.

Red Scare on Sunset is, in my opinion, one of the funnies plays ever written.

I just thought I'd hammer that point home.

I know nothing about this... is it a dvd of the stage play or a movie version?

I saw Charles Busch do it in New York in the late eighties. I didn't enjoy the play all that much .. a little camp goes a long way with me...but he was really a pleasure to watch.

It's a documentary, not to be confused with his play The Lady in Question.

Its a documentary made by the BBC. Its very interesting hearing about his upbringing. His Aunt must have been a saint!

If I recall, there's brief footage shown of him and young Patrick.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this documentary is the extensive footage of most of Busch's shows including The Lady in Question, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, Red Scare on Sunset and Psycho Beach Party. It's great to be able to catch a glimpse of that era of no-budget, ragtag campy downtown theatre which is pretty much gone now. I remember seeing a couple of those shows and it brought back great memories for me.

Margo, I agree with you! Even though the extras have some clips from those shows, I want more dammit! I want the entire show(s)!!! Crappy quality vhs from the 80's and all! It really makes you appreciate how no money and poor production values can still make a great show. I laughed so hard when they were talking about doing their show at 7:30 and a band would go on at 8:00. They would do the show over the band's music. Gotta love it!

Well, I got NEWS for you.

He is.

Charles is a total sweetie. Soft-spoken, funny and delightful.

And THE LADY IN QUESTION is the greatest Carol Burnett skit never aired.

I met Charles shortly after his Broadway triumph with ALLERGISTS WIFE, and I've seldom seen anyone wear as much deserved sucess with a complete lack of arrogance.
