Hi there! I'm new to the boards and I know there are lots of questions about shows...but I must ask this one! My dream role is Clara in "The Light in the Piazza". I am 17 years old and I have lots of experience...am I too young to play Clara now? A theatre in my area is mounting the production in July and I would love to audition. I'm just afraid that I'm too young. :/ Thanks in advance for the help! I truly appreciate it! (:

I don't think you're too young unless you look really young. Fabrizio's father assumes Clara is very close in age to Fabrizio, who is 20, meaning Clara should look younger than the 26-year-old she is. She also has a whimsical quality that makes her seem younger than 26. Even if you look younger than you are, there are stage makeup techniques to make you look a tad older. You should definitely audition because you would be really mad if you decided you were too young for the role until somebody else your age was cast in the role. The worst thing that can happen is you don't make it. Definitely audition.
I am not really familiar with the show but, like Danny said, I would audition. Just because you can never get it if you don't try. Play up your age at the audition and do your best.

Thank you so much! I've always wanted to be Clara. I hope it really works out for me! (:
