The Loved One (1965)

The Loved One (1965)

Just saw this film for the first time. What a cast. Liberace! Tab Hunter! John Gielgud! Roddy McDowall! Milton Berle!James Coburn! SO many more, I can not think of them all.

By far one of the most pleasant surprises I have seen in a long time.Oh, and because of Mr.Joyboy's Mother, I will never been the same again!

Any Fans?

I was just talking about this movie with my husband. It has been a favorite film of mine for decades. It's so subversive, irreverent and mean-spirited! In fact, I believe Terry Southern said it had "something to offend everyone."

How could you NOT love it?

BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLANT

Has anyone ever BEEN to a Forrest Lawn in Los Angeles? They are exactly like the ones in THE LOVED ONE.

Robert Morse (a particular favorite of mine) made some wacked out films and this is one (Check out his OH DAD, POOR DAD, MOMMA'S HUNG YOU IN THE CLOSET...) is one his best.

This is one of those films like BREWSTER McCLOUD that has its own sensibility and you either "get it" or you don't.

I get it and LOVE it.

I was most impressed with the cast. So many great actors in it. Mama Joyboy will forever be imprinted in my mind. Rod Steiger deserved an Oscar for his supporting role. He was AWESOME!

Anyone ever get that feeling when you see a film out of nowhere that you have no expectations about and it just takes you by surprise? This film did it for me!

Margaret Leighton. John Gielgud. Jonathan Winters. WOW!

I have been to Forest Lawn several times. I agree with you, BFB. (Why am I not surprised that you get it and love it too?)
