I did a search and saw there was not a single thread on this show. If you have not seen it I recommend you watch it. The pilot episode is on iTunes for free. By far the best show on cable Tv right now. Gets better every week!
I love it and am watching last week's DVR's episode now! I just hope they don't cancel it before the story plays out. Too many of these "commitment" shows on TV right now. After last years cancellation of "Invasion", many TV viewers aren't willing to commit to shows with season long story lines...

There are a lot of shows out right now that revolve around one simple story. It seems weird to me how they can drag something out into a whole show but I guess they do it.
There's something about The Nine that I don't really like but I can't really tell what that is. That probably doesn't make sense to anyone else though.
It is a good show and I keep watching out of curiosity. Plus it's on right after Lost and I never miss that show so I just go ahead and watch The Nine too.
So far I'm not disappointed. I hope it stays that way.
Nine people are held hostage during a bank robbery. Every episode shows 10 minutes of the actual 52 hour robbery. It pretty much shows how these people are changed and how they will always be linked together. Really one of the best shows in many seasons. Learn something new about the robbery every week. One of the best pilots since Alias. Much better show than Grey's, Lost, or Desperate.
I think what you might not like about it is how unsettling it is.
We see only parts of what happened during the 48-hour hostage situation during the bank robbery. Now we are learning about their lives, how it affected them and how they're dealing with it. What's unsettling, IMO, is that as we start to care about the characters we are slowly finding out what really went down in there...and some of it is not so "heroic". Too early to tell, but it is fascinating to watch. And so far, never boring. It may be a little slow to unfold, but I'm finding it riveting.
Tchi--hopefully, these posts will slowly unfold the concept, just like the show itself. It's hard otherwise to explain the show in a simple sound-bite.
EDIT: Oh well, Dame gave away the gist...I thought it would have been fun to unfold it like the show! No biggie--still worth checking out. ABC.com has ALL of the episodes on their website for free viewing.

Lost is slipping but I will forever watch that show as long as it's on.
Grey's is starting to really annoy me and I used to like it a lot. Have I ever liked DH? Has anyone ever like DH??
I agree The Nine is a very intelliegent show. Chi McBride is an awesome actor so it's good to see him on another good show. I missed watching him on Boston Public. The more I watch of this show the more I'm starting to like it.
Ha True DH was definetly only a one year wonder if that. Grey's is becoming way to much about McDreamy and Meredith. Will one of them just die? But it is an unsettling show that is extremely well written and acted. This is one show this season I have become excited over.
10 minutes? 52 hours?
that's gunna be a long series
The hostage situation was 48 hours--we just don't know what really happened yet. It seems to be worth it so far CQT!!
Good theatre sometimes takes time. (And I know with your smarts you might really enjoy this!)
What will next season hold--if it lasts? (That's when shows like this can get really lame...)

Hate to be picky but it was a 52 hour hostage. haha
About Nine
Just finished the last weeks episode. OMG!!! I was balling like a baby. The "nine" are finally there. And I think we all know who must have pushed that button...sadly...brilliant opening and closing of an episode!
I'm trying not to include any spoilers--if we get enough people on this thread who are up to speed, maybe then we can talk plot points?!?
Although, like the show, I think it might be fun to evolve our thread the same way...cryptically and excitingly. And with a dash of unsettleness (not a word, but that's why I love the English language--any word can become another usage--see, I did it again!)
Thanks, Dame for starting this thread! Let's keep it up?
EDIT: Sorry, Dame...remind me why I thought it was only 48 hours...I don't remember the 52 being mentioned.
I would love to keep this thread up with TomMonster :) I am glad I made it as well!
Still wish for you to remind me about the 52 hour--makes TV sense for the formula, but I don't remember that being said, only remember 48 hours...don't know why that number is stuck in my head.
PS: never worry about correcting me. I'm never embarrassed about being wrong.
Good, neither am I. So ultimately we can check each other on it :) A partnership on for one of the best shows on television.
Hmm we all make mistakes, don't we?
Sounds good! Unfortunately, I never get to see it until after the fact, but please start posting immediately. (I'll just keep my ears shut until I catch up!)
I think the 48/52 is just semantics. The "press" may have reported a 48 hour stand-off, but the "reality" might be the 52--to keep in line with the brilliant format of the show.
Still--if it continues to a second season, what can they do??? Don't get me wrong, it's worth watching just for this season. 24 has done it brilliantly! (Had to throw that in, 'cause Raver is now on this show--and scheduled for a few episodes of 24 as well...)
EDIT: I also think it's a really good "shoe" (sorry, your typo made me laugh!!)
I think instead of saying 52 hours exactly much of the press ( and the hostages) refer to it as a 2-day event. It is just easier than saying 52 hours. That is my guess. I have never watched the show at its regular time either. Much better to watch it without commercials, but I will try to be on top of it. And you can keep your ears shut, watch it, and respond as well. I am kind of disappointed that as of right now we seem to be the only interested parties....
Oh, you shouldn't have changed the typo--it seemed oddly appropriate! To me anyways.
I'm hoping others will join in on this discussion. Probably on the wrong website, but I would rather share my views with Theatre viewers than JUST TV viewers...
I see theatre all of the time and sometimes don't understand why theatre people don't watch TV. Some of the best writing is happening on TV these days and most TV actors start on Broadway--then they come back to Broadway and "shock" everyone how talented they are... Oh well. That's why I think it is appropriate for TV discussion on this site. 'Specially on the off-topic board, of course.
Let's spread the word of "NINE" (Maybe that's what's confusing--is it "NINE" the musical or "THE NINE" the show???) Kidding--you clarified in your post--The Nine on ABC...unless they thought the musical was now on ABC...
I'm really, really loving this show!
I did miss the last episode, so I have one quick question (you can PM me the answer, if you don't want to spoil it for others who haven't seen the show).
*SPOILERS*
Is the teenage girl the only one who doesn't remember the heist?
Try to watch it on ABC.com.
But I'll let you know this: if you remember, she was the only one not to meet them at the diner in the first episode...at the end of the last one she joins them--not at a diner, but completes the nine. The last episode starts and ends with part of her story--and part of her "memory".
If you are not able to watch it on the ABC website, PM me later...but I won't answer you for at least a day, until you try! Hehehe...it's worth watching and very hard to explain. One of the reasons I love this show! And one of the reasons, I'm afraid the show won't last... It's just too smart. Not for people on BWW, but for the general public.
Oh! I didn't realize they were available for free download. It would probably have helped if had read the entire thread. Haha.
I'll definitely watch tomorrow! Thanks!
They're free, but not for download... You have to watch them on the site with "limited" commercial breaks.
Pretty much, every network is doing this, this season. ABC has the best interface, but since the technology is so new it has it quirks... Worth the problems! Other networks, don't let you see anything past the last weeks show. So far ABC has kept the entire season online...that could change soon, so catch up!
Enjoy!

Why not have a show that's meant to last a season? I know everyone's looking for the next long-running hit, but a few one-offs here and there can be nice for everyone involved, like a giant mini-series. Actors don't have to sign away 5-7 years of their lives to playing the same characters, and writers won't have to flog ideas well past their expiration dates. Large and complex but discrete stories can be told.
Veronica Mars Season 1 comes to mind as an instance of 1 season telling a story beautifully, but it's easier to look to the English model of television for examples. Admittedly, they tend to go for shorter one-off series because their shows don't have huge writing staffs like American ones, but still.
I agree, Plum. To a point. Advertisers won't invest in a show that is only for one season--unless it is a "mini-series".
British TV, is subsidized by the government. The writers only need to produce 6+ shows a season. HBO and other cable channels do that here because we pay for it.
Network TV requires 13 to 22+ episodes a season and is truly remarkable that ANYTHING turns out well!
I think this show will follow the footsteps of 24 in that it will resolve this story and start a new "thread" for next season involving, perhaps, some of the same characters and situations that they are becoming involved with on this season.
A true puzzle; but the more walls, the more reasons to break them...
