Don't ya just love that side profile?
Ooo Chloe I thought I was the only one who hadn't seen Rent yet! I'll be so excited if I can see it soon before Cary Shields leaves. Maybe I'll bring one of my best friends who is really starting to love Adam. Yay for converting friends to Adamites!
You wonder how shows that are that bad get so far. But I should talk, having worked on any number of pretty bad movies - you just become blind to it after a while. It's so hard to create something good, so easy to do something bad.
wow QM congrats on sitting through GV! You will never catch me in that theater! I HATE the beach boys!
I think the Beach Boys did some really great things, and if the songs are done well, it would compensate for some of the rest. But I guess not.
That's what I thought, Chloe. How can anyone even want to put Good Vibrations on Broadway? Don't they see it? Don't they realize that they're going to be torn to pieces and lose a lot of money?
I didn't think a lot of Mamma Mia either and now thinking back and seeing that it opened a lot of doors for these types of shows makes me like it even less. But at least Mamma Mia had a story and the songs fitted into the show, unlike GV.
I wonder what you're going to think of Rent. I assume you're so familiar with the OBC recording. I keep my fingers crossed that the current cast has more passion for the show.
ETA: I got comps for GV. I thought I should give it a try.

I do have the Rent CD, but got it fairly recently, so I'm familiar with the music but haven't worn it out yet. (Also I tend to listen a lot more to Adam's songs, I must admit.) Anyway, if the guys at the Nederlander don't come through, I may attempt to see the tour cast when they're in New Jersey. I do want to have the wonderful experience with it that so many of you have.
I think the main problem is that once you have seen the OBC live no one else can compare. I'm not saying that because I'm a fan of Adam, I'm saying that because these guys were special and absolutely amazing together. They had this journey and Rent meant something completely different to them.
I have only seen the Original London Cast (so had three people of the main OBC missing) but I got the 'hint'.
I'm surprised you only just got Rent recently. Have you only just discovered Adam?

"Have you only just discovered Adam?"
Yes, when I finally saw Aida last August. I wasn't instantly so taken with him - the poison worked into me gradually after I got the Aida CD, then the Rent one, and then his solo albums. Coming across this thread didn't help either!
Once I'm interested in something or somebody I have to find out all about it and become obsessive.

Chloe, I am the exact same way! Maybe this is somehow connected to our love of Google. I discovered RENT in the fall, thanks to a friend who has a choral CD featuring Seasons of Love. I was actually first drawn to Anthony, or I guess the character of Mark (I love the geekier ones) but Adam was a close--a very close--second. Now, it's switched.
It certainly makes sense that obsessiveness and loving to research go hand in hand. I've always been a sucker for the loner/bad boy/brooding artist type myself, so Mark has never appealed to me.

In September, I saw this gorgeous man who was one of the tutors in my course. He's kind of small and geeky, but well-dressed, with the glasses and everything. I fell promptly in love with him. Too bad he's quite a bit older, and married. Anyway, I've been admiring from afar, and that's fine. He makes me fangirly and giggly, and my friends think it's cute. Then I discovered RENT. ONe day, while I was looking for pictures of the OBC, I came across a group shot, in which Anthony Rapp looks almost exactly like this tutor. I nearly fell over, I couldn't believe it! The tutor could SO be the most perfect Mark.
That's the picture, by the way.
Wow, I had no idea. It always amazes me how people can just discover him when he and his voice have been around for some time.I don't mean that in a bad way... it's great that he manages to attract new people
Ok, I'm off now...
Haven't seen Amasis here in a little while and I seem to keep missing Nia

::wondering who and what QM's new avatar is::
Sorry to leave also, but I have to get off for a while.
Yeah, I can't believe all that time Adam was around and I didn't know, but I was younger then. I guess I remember hearing about Rent, but I never realized Adam was from Rent until the first time I saw him in Aida, November 13, 2002
And of course I became OBSESSED. My OCD has been channeled to the greatest extent for Adam.
I think QM's new avatar is haydn chrsitensen (SP). COuld be wrong. And have fun. I think i am off too. Goodnight.
Ooh..he's so hot. Yeah, I'd better just put an end to this right now and get my homework done. "My schoolwork resembles a mountain!" hehe from an "Even Stevens" song but I just really like the line *looks around* Btw, I met Christy Carlson Romano and think she is an amazing singer/actress in Beauty, though ALOT of people would disagree. She sounds EXACTLY like Belle!
go do your hw addict!!!! Wait look who's talking!!! DAMN FRENCH!
ugh Como se dice DAMN SPANISH??
Oh dear. I thought QM was kidding when she said Brooklyn was really that bad. She ust be right about GV, then, but I can't possibly even imagine...
did everyone die??
BUMP!
I'm here... not working as usual. Don't know where the rest of the crew is, though.

I've been emailing all evening. Catching up with people and telling them my RENT experience! I saved it in Word, so I just have to copy and paste it. I'm a geek.
I so do that. Like... that day I had to PM a billion people some random Adam story, I just copy/pasted!
