I think it kind of funny, and a little bit ironic that I've only been privy to ONE intelligent conversation with the man, considering how many times we've met.
Was that at Symphony Space?
He can be a bitch.
Well, some stagemoms were worthy of that attitude...ahem.
sweetsiren, don't feel bad. When I met him, I said so much that I'm sure sounded completely ridiculous that I'm kind of embarassed to remember it all. I mean, I admitted to him that the only thing I've seen him in was Chitty! Which is kind of, but not completely true, but considering his reaction to that, I wish I'd told him the whole truth- that Chitty was the only thing I'd seen him in LIVE. I wish I had.
'twas indeed Symphony Space. That's the only time I haven't like... eaten my tongue.
He knew you at least KNEW his other work, though. I can only admit to two of the many. He seemed not to want to talk about The Normal Heart, though.
I probably would've just blabbered like an idiot. I think I'm taking the script to Cincy for him to sign.
Yeah, I noticed that when I mentioned The Normal Heart, which was why I was glad you *finally* jumped in to say something!
I was like "speak... you can do it... say something..."
I figured trying to be kind of funny would lighten the load a little bit, because he really seems to not be fond of talking about it. He looked like he was trying to find a way out of it. :-/
That's another thing-- what to get signed. I don't have anything interesting, and I don't know how substantial the playbill for Company will be, since it's not a major production.
*is way too neurotic*
I'm trying to decide if bringing a poster from another show is too ridiculous. Or if everyone else that has them will be doing the same, so he'll realize that all us weirdos are together.
I brought my TTB poster to Chitty. Polar opposite much? We'll go together!
Yay!
At least these are Sondheim shows, so it kind of makes sense. Sunday or Merrily?
I'm taking Sunday because it's white, so a marker will show up better on it. The shows are so different that I don't think I could accurately say whether I like one better, or something. I guess Merrily's a little bit more accessible, though.
Good point. And considering what sweetsiren posted earlier about him prepping for the part, he probably preferred Sunday himself.
Yeah, I was just thinking that there's the "you've been in two of my favorite Sondheim shows" (Company and Merrily...) thing to possibly start a conversation.
I think he's prouder of Sunday... because it's such a hard show to pull off and he put a lot of work into it, but it sounds from that article like he had a lot of fun with Merrily, too. I'm sure either would be totally fine.
It's a lot deeper!
But the poster just has more sign-able space.
I really like the number in Merrily where he's on the phone, and does the entire song really fast into the reciever.

Ooo, I didn't even think about autographs! I obviously have not seen anybody I love live, lol. How does this all work, all those wiser than me?
Ask an usher where the stage door is, I guess. Or I'm sure one of us will be able to tell you when we get back. Just... wait. And be friendly and polite! He's good, he'll take pictures and sign things, etc.
Ugh, *if* he comes out...
*knocks wood*
If I get to make the call on matinee vs. evening tickets (if at all), definitely go for the night performance, right? Better chances, maybe? Updated On: 1/20/06 at 06:04 PM
I think he will. Probably not after matinees, but I think he'll come out. He's usually really awesome about it. Skittles, remember when he said he was too tired? I think before that he was like "I usually do, but..."
Staning O can't hurt!
Oh, I think he'll get one.
I'm excited that they're having "Marry Me A Little" in this production.... not that they wouldn't since it was in the revival, but still. More solos for Raul can't hurt.
Yeah, well, being sick of the show and all the 5 year olds asking him when Truly is coming out probably didn't help either.
But I swear it's me. He never came out when I was there. Which is a really crappy coincidence, but I hope I don't f*ck it up with Company for you.

But it's a talkback day!

Yes, true, but I still have no idea what a talkback is, lol. Can you tell I've lived in Ohio my whole life?
They basically start out with a little introduction of sorts, about the production and stuff, and then they have a certain amount of time to take questions from the audience.
Are you sure they're doing a talkback on a two-performance day? I can't imagine they'd do a matinee, have a talkback between shows and then do an evening show. If the matinee is the only show that day, he'll probably sign autographs after it. When we say he won't after matinees, we mean if he has another show that night.
I hope I can rush the Meet the Artists show before I go back to school. Especially after seeing Sweeney, I'm so curious about this type of production.
I tried to figure out a way to plan it so I could go to one of them, because it's probably going to be fascinating, but it was impossible.
You can preserve it for me, I'm sure!
