Posted: 7/21/04 at 4:17pmAs previously discussed in the 'I live in a boring city thread', many of us (well, maybe not many) are stuck in the suburbs, away from the glitz and glamor of NYC. This thread is a support group for these people. Should you ever feel the need to gripe about the lack of good theatre or anything at to do all in your city, here's the place to do it. Enjoy. :)

Posted: 7/21/04 at 4:37pmC'mon. It can't possibly be that boring. Certainly not filled with the things of New York, but there has to be some happening things going on!

Posted: 7/21/04 at 4:38pmUm, not really. I can't think of anything coming up. All we have is football during the fall and I hate football. And we have a very good theatre college whose shows I see when they're playing.

Posted: 7/21/04 at 6:47pmMy town is horrible. I realize it could be worse, but it definately isn't great either. It's not the sticks, however, and for that I am grateful.

Posted: 7/21/04 at 7:09pmMy town doesn't suck, per se, it just isn't fabulous. We've got good theatre, if you know were to look, and we've got a water park, too (exciting, I know). But I'm gonna join this group anyway 'cause my town ain't no New York, or San Francisco for that matter. Updated On: 7/21/04 at 07:09 PM

Posted: 7/21/04 at 7:11pma water park? we get that in NYC when all the homeless pee in the same corner.

Posted: 7/21/04 at 7:18pm*cries* midtowngym, I'm frightened. Yes, Delphine, we do have a pretty nice theater. But it's not New York or San Francisco. Or LA, for that matter. Oooh, or NAPA!! I LOVE NAPA!!!
#13re: The Official Suburbian Support Group thread
Posted: 7/21/04 at 7:21pmNAPA! Yay! See, that's the one good thing about our town. 1 hour away from the ocean, 1 hour away from the mountains, and 1 hour away from the wine!

One thing that sucks about the suburbs - the great shortage of all-night restauraunts! If you are doing a show, you don't get out until 10:30, and sometimes a group wants to go get something to eat. The nearest all-night joint is 20 minutes away!
Aren't Denny's and IHOP supposed to be open all night??? The ones by me close at 10 PM! WTF is up with that???
It's crap like this that forces teenagers to hang out in the parking lot of the 7-11!

my home town has a population for 43000 and NO movie theatre, bowling alley, anything fun like that.
Our one "bar" is a resaturant during the day. Enough said.
But we do have several conservation areas and the most Tim Horton's per capita in all of Canada....whohoo.
So yes, I spent my youth getting eaten by mosquitos and getting addicted to TIm Horton's coffee (still am).
Now I live in a moderate-sized city, on the busiest corner known as "the Hub". I'm surrounded by bars and clubs and restaurants and the nightlife I was so sheltered from at home.
My suggestion to you bored suburbanites.....MOVE!

Posted: 7/22/04 at 10:09amI live in a suburban--almost rural area of Long Island. We have no sidwalks or streetlights in my neighborhood. However, we have a summer theater that is presenting a sensational production of CATS right now. What more could we ask for?

Posted: 7/22/04 at 11:05amHey, it's not my fault I'm here. And there are no shows going on right now.
#20re: The Official Suburbian Support Group thread
Posted: 7/22/04 at 4:10pmWe have a couple of good shows coming in 2005. That's what's keeping me sane at the moment.
