The Academy Awards just posted the Opening to the 1981 Oscar Telecast on its YouTube channel.
As this event was before my time, I was completely unaware that the Reagan attempted assasination was the intended day of the Oscars, and that it was postponed to the following day.
Furthermore, I had no idea about the circumstances involved in the motive of the assasination attempt. I watched the YouTube video two hours ago, and ever since, I have been Googling all about the event. I am completely fascinated with it, and I am surprised that Hollywood has not turned this event into a movie yet.
On a completely different note, seeing Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, and Mary Tyler Moore arrive onto the red carpet is surreal.
It's fantastic that AMPAS continues to upload these clips to YouTube.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
