The Academy Awards just posted the Opening to the 1981 Oscar Telecast on its YouTube channel.
As this event was before my time, I was completely unaware that the Reagan attempted assasination was the intended day of the Oscars, and that it was postponed to the following day.
Furthermore, I had no idea about the circumstances involved in the motive of the assasination attempt. I watched the YouTube video two hours ago, and ever since, I have been Googling all about the event. I am completely fascinated with it, and I am surprised that Hollywood has not turned this event into a movie yet.
On a completely different note, seeing Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, and Mary Tyler Moore arrive onto the red carpet is surreal.
It's fantastic that AMPAS continues to upload these clips to YouTube.
There were TV Movies that dealt with the subject.
I wonder if sensitivity to Jodie Foster, and the tool that incident took on her had any bearing on not having a major motion picture

Liberals hate Reagan. They wouldn't make a movie that gave him an ounce of dignity. If they made a movie about the incident, they would probably end it with him being shot.

Pure Glamour, thanks for posting!
Reagan does a video message at the OSCARS and everyone is fine with it. However, when Michelle Obama does it like she did this year, the Republicans throw a hissy fit.
Liberals hate Reagan? Yeah,so what. Conservatives hate Clinton,Carter, and Obama. Whats your point Goth?

Liberals hate Reagan, conservatives hate everyone so it all evens out.
Reagan was not just an actor but the President of SAG (During the Hollywood 10 era and was fairly okay with letting people in the industry go down) and of the Hollywood generation where he certainly was not alone in political beliefs. Given that the Academy has always had a fairly one-sided voting bloc, older white males, it should not be surprising that one of their own, in more ways than one, got this send-up when that person in question became President.

There was a TV movie called 'The Day Reagan was Shot'. Holland Taylor was Nancy Reagan and Richard Dreyfuss was Al Haig. It was in 2001 but I remember it getting some attention even as it was fairly run-of-the-mill in quality.
Also the JD Salinger documentary coming out real soon explores how John Hinckley, Jr., Mark David Chapman, and Arthur Bremer (the shooting that actually inspired Schrader and Scorsese in the script for Taxi Driver') all stated being influenced by Catcher in the Rye which many speculate further drove Salinger into never considering publishing more works let alone more on Holden Caulfield.

Spell check messed up your post Jim- you obviously meant our LEAST GOOD president as Reagan was just AWFUL! He more than doubled the deficit, launched the career of Osama Bin Laden, made Iran a military powerhouse and used the Constitution like toilet paper. Of course, you can make the case that his Alzheimer's had already left him a seriously diminished man and he had no idea what he was doing most of the time, leaving our country in the hands of his promiscuous wife and her astrologer.
For the record, it should have read "toll" though Hinkley was a tool.

And yet, JoeK, he won his election in 49 states. That will never happen again.
Reagan also allowed thousands of men to die needlessly just because they liked Donna Summer and Sondheim musicals.
Reagan was scum and I wish there was a hell for him to burn in for eternity!
What a terrible sentiment to have for anyone. I pity you.
Master Bates, I do not need pity from someone like you. Find some dumb ass animated gifs to post.
