Let's compile a list of songs you believe to be still in contention for a Oscar nomination for Best Song. Then we will shrink the list down to five.

List of contenders (edited daily):

"Believe" (The Polar Express)
"Accidentally In Love" (Shrek 2)
"Will The Sun Ever Shine Again?" (Home On The Range)
"Learning to be Lonely" (The Phantom of the Opera)

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I love you!
It would be AMAZING if Believe (POlar Express) won!! Josh Groban!!

But yea, sorry... I think we'll also have to look at the big contenders, like the Aviator ... and Ray *(especially becuase this movie is about a music legend who passed away)

I don't think RAY included any original songs...did it?

The phantom one is "Learning to be Lonely," and it's awful. I haven't heard the other ones.

I just want "Believe" to win.
What do you think the chances are for him?

If it has an orignal song, that song can be nominated.

I'm thinking of that song that had an Eternal Sunshine music video directed by Gondry. You know- the one with the freaky mouths. Would that count? Because I liked that song. Or at least the video.

No, only an original song can be nominated, which is why for CHICAGO "I Just Move On" was nominated instead of other greater ones - such as "All That Jazz" and "Cellophane."

("Cell Block Tango" is only good as a musical number - not a stand alone song)

Wow - you like this song. Don't remember it from the film. Will have to hear it again.

sorry.. I just love Josh Groban

It's actually pretty popular for a song from a movie...

I don't know if the song is actually in the movie.... it might be at the end credits.

plum- it's polyphonic spree, "light and day." i don't think it can be nominated b/c it wasn't written for the movie and it was on their album which came out before the film. but TPS rule!

Just a guess - is "Peter's Song" from Finding Neverland?

Correct! "Peter's Song" was written by and performed by Elton John for the film FINDING NEVERLAND.

HOWEVER - during test audiences, there were loads of comments at how awful the song was, so Miramax decided to cut it.

It was also to be on the Motion Picture Soundtrack, however Miramax pulled it out just in time.

Ok here are two awsome songs that are fabulous but from bad movies. "Tell Me Know (What You See)" from King Arthur and "Remember Me" from Troy (performed by Josh Groban). They are btter IMO than any other slisted so far.

EponineThenardier ... you thought Troy was bad?
I will admit, it did not present the facts of the Trojan war correctly, but I didn't think it was bad.

Also... yes Remember Me by Josh Groban would be amazing if it was nominated (I figured I shouldn't add that one becuase I was already raving about Believe)
