Bumping my own thread for Halloween!
I just love Margaret Hamilton reprising her role as the Wicked With in this and don't get me started on Billy Barty (I love him!)Its sad, but they don't make campy Holiday specials like this anymore.I mean, look at the cast and musical numbers in this. Its CLASSIC!The last campy holiday special they made that comes to mind is Pee Wee's Christmas special.
I think you mean Billie Hayes (aka Witchipoo!)
I love this horrible special. Everyone in it is frighteningly bad... in a good way.
It's almost like they drew random names out of a hat back then, and that was their guest star roster for this show. Love it!
Here's another Witchipoo clip I love, with her and Mama Cass!
A couple o'white witches sittin' around talking
Billie Hayes and Margaret Hamilton play the two witches.Witchipoo and the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz. I believe its the only time she reprised her role of the witch since Wizard of Oz.
Oh, and regarding that clip. I want a painted tub like that for my bathroom! So 70's!!!
It's the only time Margaret Hamilton reprised her role on film (or TV).
But she toured the country in a big stage production of The Wizard of Oz. I saw her when she came to Kansas City in the early '70s.
Can you imagine seeing her as the Wicked Witch of the West, live on stage! It was great... even if the show (as a whole) was cheesy.
The Hudson Brothers were the Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion! Need I say more?
Ugh.

Love this...and must have been trick or treating when it aired, because I dont remember it back then! Bizarre, random and wonderful!~
I love how Paul sings Disco Bibeh!
SO, when it came out on dvd a few years back I bought it and watched over and over. Its really funny to hear him tell these jokes that make no sense today but were very timely back then. I remember some joke about Convoy because the song was popular at the time and the sweat hogs reference is classic! Its really a cool special.
I didn't know Margaret toured with a stage version of Wizard of Oz. That must have been awesome!
Bumping this just for the hell of it.

Actually, Hamilton reprised it twice more.
Once, on Mr. Roger's, she put the costume on and talked about the film, and then later (I think) appeared in the Land-of-Make-Believe as The Wicked Witch
The second time, she did it on what sounds like a highly surreal episode of Sesame Street.

Bumping this for the Halloween season.Sad to say, this has been pulled from Youtube since my original post. However, it can be purchased on Amazon. I highly recommend this DVD. Its campy fun and they simply don't make variety shows like this anymore.

Bummer the vids got pulled from YouTube. I hate when that happens!
I did manage to find this KISS clip from the show:
Here it is!
I always liked Disco Baby.

romantico, everyone sure looks like they're having fun!
They sure do. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I had heard Margaret Hamilton had been asked for years to reprise her Wicked Witch character but had declined. Paul and Margaret were good friends and she decided to do it for his special.
The trendy references ('Kids and your Sweathogs,The Convoy sketch, and I think I heard Paul say, 'sit on it' in one scene)were so over the top. I watch it every year and enjoy it. I think it takes me back to a different time. The special aired only once on Friday, October 29th, 1976.Not sure how it did in the ratings but its a shame the special went so many years without being seen.
Just a minor point of contention here ... something that was explained to me after my earlier posts in this thread ... she's not actually playing THE Wicked Witch of the West, hence the pretty significant makeup difference in this TV special. She's playing "a" wicked witch, just not the one she played in the MGM movie. Why? That image or "likeness" is owned by MGM and is protected under copyright law.
