She also says in the very same article that she is pretty sure is actually right, not to mention that she also states the Pope isn't calling for a change in doctrine, but maybe she and the Pope are poised to be the best cheerleaders for gays since Laura Bush!

Posted: 10/11/13 at 12:30pmI think this is an enormous ruse by the Pope to have more gays sent to hell, because every time they misrepresent what he says they are breaking the Ninth Commandment.

I don't know anything about Catholic doctrine, so I won't pretend to. But if you're going to hell for being gay, you might be going to hell for a whole bunch of other things too, right? So you might as well be gay.
But I do think that when the person at the top spews hate, it allows for people down the chain of command to be 100 time more hateful, because they can claim that they're only doing what is right. But when the person at the top stops the hate that's coming from the top, the people down the line have a tougher time being hateful. They can no longer justify their hatred, or they have a tougher time justifying it, at any rate.
Sometimes the "baby steps" we all resent can make change happen remarkably quickly.

Catholicism is always changing. good things get better, bad get worse.
Wait I think I mean that in reverse?
All I know is you used to be automatically hell-bound for eating meat on Friday. Now, not so much.

We never discuss where thinking the thoughts that make you realize you are gay in the first place fits in. Jesus and the priests I was taught by said lust is the same as adultery, so unless you are gay and chaste of body and mind, how can you get to Heaven? This is all very confusing.

I wish I'd been raised in the Catholic Church you went to.

No, actually. Catholics have a lot of rules and laws that can keep you out. Jesus died and basically cut the ribbon on heaven. I am not sure where people who died before Jesus went- probably purgatory- but they had to wait until Jesus opened Heaven for visitors.
As my nuns used to tell me, a lot of people go to hell. A LOT.

Posted: 10/11/13 at 1:13pmI don't believe in magic. So I don't care where they think I'm going when I die. I just want them to stay out of my way while I'm alive. Just stop actively working to oppress me. And stop trying to trick good people into supporting you by tricking them into thinking you're more tolerant than you really are.

It's amazing how this stuff comes flooding back when you think about it. Things I were taught:
If you die and have one un-confessed mortal sin, HELL! if you confessed a sin (even a little one) but did not do your penance, HELL! If you have small un-confessed sins or have ever committed a mortal sin (even if you have confessed & repented) you go to purgatory (maybe for years) to heal the marks on your soul before going to heaven. Purgatory is not torture like hell is, but you are in absolute agony because you are dead and not in heaven yet. Heaven is eternal bliss.
If you die as a baby and were not baptized you go to limbo. Forever. Limbo is not hell, but it is agony like purgatory but you don't mind as much because you are a baby. If you are baptized and die before age 7 you go to heaven. When you are 7 you start going to confession and from then on you are held liable for any sins.
oh a few years back the pope decided Limbo didn't exist and from then on unbaptized babies could go to heaven. Babies who had gone to limbo had to stay there because there is no exit from Limbo ever for anyone. Sorry babies.
How long are you in hell? Eternity: Imagine a steel ball the size of the sun. Every century a bird flies by and brushes that steel ball with his wing. When that wears that ball away to nothing, eternity is JUST BEGINNING.

It's like everyone just makes up rules as the go along.
Whatever is convenient I suppose.

Limbo closed in 2006. I think maybe all the people who died before Jesus went to Heaven were there too?
Sister Humbert was very clear- once you went to limbo you never got out no matter what.

You must have known Sister Humbert! Once, during a spirited discussion on if animals go to heaven (No, of course not), Sister Humbert said SHE KNEW because "she'd been there."
I tell ya, it was like arguing with Suestorm.
