Having just seen the former I can now compare the 2. While both were good & held your interest enjoyed The Illusionist more. The Prestige simply got too muddled at the end
If anyone has any thoughts on it please post
I haven't seen the Illusionist, but I thought the prestige was amazing, and that Bale will likely get a Globe nod.
I thought the Illusionist was too predictable to be enjoyable.
I only saw the Illusionist, and it was pretty good. I'm not really a fan of going to the movies, but it was nice enough.
Much of the Prestige was shot in the Los Angeles Theater
The theater, designed by S Charles Lee , opened in the early 30's . It has been featured in many movies & commercials ( especially the sumptuous lobby )
Has anyone read the book that The Prestige ia based on.
I agree Mr Roxy. So.. was that a clone machine?

I only saw The Prestige and thought it was fantastic. For those who have seen it -- read the Wikipedia site for the movie, it explains the ending.

That comment says values with what is wrong with the movie.
True
It was simply to convoluted. For instance, I knew some things were coming before they did but the later twists & turns left me perplexed
The site also said it cost $ 40 million to make. I find that hard to believe as the 4 top actors had to command that in salary
I thought THE PRESTIGE was well made and beautifully acted (especially by Bale), but the ending completely ruined it for me.
I saw THE ILLUSIONIST just last night (finally!) and loved it. Gorgeous score, wonderful performances, and the entire look of the film is just stunning. Very soft. I hope it picks up a couple Oscar nominations for score and art direction (perhaps cinematography), but I doubt that it will.

I haven't seen The Illusionist, but I really liked The Prestige. Christian Bale was wonderful. I was also very impressed by the actress who portrayed his wife. Scarlett, though, did nothing for me in this role.

While I thought the Prestige was a very well made film and is very good, I thought the Illusionist was more believable. The Prestige would've been my choice as the better film had it not been for the ending. Then again, there are so many mysteries surrounding Tesla's inventions... who knows if that ending would've really been possible.
Both were good but The Prestige was too convoluted for its own good
I don't know what you think, but commenting The Prestige just by focusing at the ending is much too shallow and doesn't do justice to the film. If you look closely to the whole script, every little detail is in cohesiveness with the plot. Nearly every mystery can be answered.

I really enjoyed The Prestige, but the ending took away from the film in my opinion.
I really loved the "Illusionist". I thought the Prestige was weak. Bigger budget, bigger stars, bigger production, where the illusionist seemed to rely more on the acting and the story. Of course, this is just my opinion. I really loved the TESLA angle and thought Bowie stole the film.
I recently saw both of these.
I'll be brief.
I thought The Prestige was intoxicating and intellectually stimulating. Did it always work? I don't know. But I was intrigued the whole time and want to see it again desperately. And I'll probably see it many times after that. Superb performances, too
I thought The Illusionist had potential, but I also thought it was entirely too predicatable and not nearly ambitious enough. Good performances, but it left me unimpressed.

Haven't seen Prestige yet, but The Illusionist did absolutely nothing for me at all.
DG, see The Prestige.
You may very well find it ridiculous, but it still brings up some very stimulating questions. And, whether you want to or not, I believe you will find it very entertaining.
Although, I should saw that I watched it with my younger sister and mom and they both di not enjoy it at all and did not finish it with me.
Haven't seen "The Illusionist," but my favorite part of "The Prestige" was the ending. I was actually a bit put off with the film until the ending, and it's one of those movies I didn't really know what to think at the time, but in hindsight I really liked it... will definitely see it again.

As the Peter Travers quote on the DVD case says, "You want to see it again the second its over."
