Thoughts on the Cabaret movie? I've heard it's bad.

what idea..
what dvd's i need to complete my bad movie musical collection?
*prays that RENT does not join that number*

you mean the Liza one?
i don't think it's bad... different than the stage - but not bad...
a little "drifty" maybe...

so, you didn't like The Wiz (movie)?
Never mind my idea...
I own the Cabaret movie...
It is very different than the show - and it moves slower...
if you like the EMCEE's scenes - it is very good. If you like the Schneider/Schultz story - don't get this movie...

wiz the movie...
first off - Ms. Ross did NOT need to be playing Dorothy and if they hadn't succumbed to stunt casting then the subsequent story changes would also not have been necessary....
then, of course, there's MJ.... pre-TOTAL-freak but you still can't look at him the same way....
the green scene is nice....

As far as bad musicals, nothing beats Rocky Horror. The best worst movie ever made.
I'll probably check out Cabaret. Is it like the revival or the original?

rocky horror RULES !!!

yeah, i watched it today.....I didn't see you...
They showed the famous Seasons of Love line....but it was no one from the OBC, except when they showed Adam singing OSG....if I am not mistaken...
On another note, if I translated it right, which may not be, but I have the Russian CD of Chicago and apparently (stupid Russian sites) the one who played Mama Morton was one of the few, and first, black Russians to perform on stage...
Well, as it has Joel Grey - I'll say the original - although it has music which wasn't in the original and later put into the Revival (Mein Herr and the Revival Money Song (originally called Sitting Pretty). Something interesting, Sam Mendes (who directed the revival) first staged Cabaret in 93 in London in the Donmar Warehouse - Mein Herr was not in the score. I s'pose it was added in when the show came to Bway...
I've never seen the Rocky Horror one... who's in it?

blaze - you're a virgin?

oh, and the infamous "She wouldn't look Jewish at all" line was said in the movie (unlike in the original - "She isn't a Meeskite at all")
Tom Hewitt was in the original Bway - Tim Curry was in the movie with Susan Sarandon - I think?

Fredi, any musical movies not in your BAD section?
Broadway Legend Joined: 11/20/04
a little clarification...
THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO CABARET...
oh, and the infamous "She wouldn't look Jewish at all" line was s

oops, sorry, I added the Rocky Horror line in as I was about to submit the mssg. thanks.
I think for the American Musical on PBS they did show the OBC for SOL and not just OSG. I am pretty sure. Almost certain about that.
