It's a lot easier said than done. I don't think I've been blunt enough in the past to him, so for me to suddenly be my natural raving bitch self may be too harsh. It doesn't help that his ex-girlfriend just started dating the brother of his previous love interest. I'm not rationalizing his actions or justifying them, I just don't want to kick the guy too hard when he's down.

How can I say no nicely without making things awkward with our circle of friends?

But I've only been hinting. Like "I've been busy.", "I'm not a phone person.", "I haven't checked my messages." I've learned that guys are denser than pound cake (no offense, BSo). I know I need to come on stronger but I think "F*CK off or I'll call the cops." might be too strong, eh?

you can be blunt and get your point across without having to be a heinous bitch...something like

"i'm really not interested in dating you and i wish you would stop calling me. we have the same friends, so if this doesn't stop it is going to get uncomfortable for both of us"

You're right, you're right. If I was an observer, I'd say the same things you guys are. (Ain't that always the case?) I would just really hate to hurt his feelings again and make things awkward with this new-ish group of friends.

I simply do not see how someone can be so THICK! This is the guy who stole my tip money to cover his share of the bill (without tipping!) and then hauled me up the street and followed me part of the way home by bus. *shakes head*
