you'd think snowboarding would be safer cause you're already on the ground...
but i know better - one trip to "traction park" in NJ taught me that (and i think ruined skiing for me forever...)

I like ice skating badly around Rockefeller center...aah memories. I just can not skate.
In snowboarding you fall a ton more than with skiis
But, theres no worry of impailing yourself with long pointy pieces of metal if you do fall.
I like snowboarding better.. a lot easier to do tricks and stuff. Then again I snowboard all the time.. its hard at first and you fall down a lot(even if you get good) buts its all good fun
I have no coordination...the day I try to ski will be the day I die.

beka - you're quite the athelete!!!
I think I'll stick to advanced serving hot chocolate by the fireplace in the ski lodge...
i make a FABULOUS lodge bunny!
I actually started skating in Maryland, but I began competing in Reno, then when we moved here I lived at Eastridge Ice Arena.

bso - OUCH!!!
who was hurt worse?
cam- very nice.
i skated at iceland (in the LA area), then divided my time betweeen Pickwick and Iceoplex (also in LA).
wonder if we ever competed against each other...
I always wanted to attempt the skiing/snow boarding thing but never have.. I will stick to my random trips to the ice arena that I quickly regret.. and long after am reminded why I quite..
I miss the ice quite terribly sometimes... It's gotten to the point that as much as I love the sport I have a hard time watching it.

i think she was...
my first time going down the BUNNY hill on my own, i couldn't stop and rammed my friend's mom down - my mom moved out of the way...
i actually worked at the rink i used to skate at right after i had to stop skating competitively.
there's a really nice rink about 20 minutes from where i am now...i try and go about once a month.

BSO - you're only proving my point...
snow and falling...
moreover - falling IN THE SNOW!!!
NOT!!!
not me anyway...
haven't ice skated in years...
still cold - but falling wasn't so bad...
probably because i spent all my time WORKING and when you're doing shows - you can't do anything else with your body - can't afford to get hurt, or be sore...
and most of the time - you just DON'T HAVE TIME!!! one day off a week doesn't leave much time for that kind of stuff...

*i* haven't changed my avatar! should i?
my friend is a very big skater. she's been to nationals, and has a cooperative guidance counselor that has arranged her schedule so that every day she has either 1st or 1st and 2nd off so she has a couple of hours of practice in the morning.
I think the worst ski accident I've seen is this woman fell right when she got off the ski lift, and everyone that got off after that tripped over her and fell because they couldn't stop. They stopped the lift right before my friend and I were supposed to get off, otherwise we woulda been part of that pile
I must say it was rather funny though...

practice, practice, practice
it's the same with anything if you want to be really good...
i sing at least 4 hours a week when i'm not working
try to go to karaoke (good to work a live audience) at least twice a month....
REALLY need to get back to a ballet class - though i do a mini-barre after my pilates tape 3 X's a week when i'm not being lazy (like this past month...)

OMG Blaze - LOL....
very funny (in retrospect of course....)
The constent practice and being on the ice at 4 am didn't bother me.. I actually quite enjoyed it.. I woudl do it again in a heart beat if I could.. But I figure havingto stop pushed me in other directions I may have otherwise not gone. Like theatre and music. Although I have always loved being on stage since I was little.. But in a way skating was a way of performing as well..
BST~ we probably did compete against each other at some point. I traveled all over the place competing..
I'm not sure I like the new avatar.. I'm kind of missing the handcuff pose.. *sigh* that could just be the fact that I haven't seen it since Sunday on Stage..
