1st question..
film editing
mostly video editing and on the computer (go AVID) but I'd love to do the old reel stuff for the art of it....
also would love to learn more animation...
2nd question
juke-box musicals (great wordage )
they are inevitable - at first B'way led pop music -
now pop music leads B'way.... cyclical...
I'm just suprised it took so long.
as for particular artists? Nope - I'd have to be sitting at the auditions with the rest of the creative team to answer that. You don't know until you've seen 'em - unless you're "stunt" casting of course (casting stars to guarantee box office)
fwb
So natch I've gotta ask you - What's your opinion on stunt casting?
(Edit: Oops MagicPiane, I didn't realize you just asked that. )

ahhhh....
as a producer - It's GREAT!!!
As an artist......
It's aggravating beyond measure
I flip back and forth between the 2 minds...
like - okay - the RAISIN that just happened...? Any idea how many folks who never would have DREAMED of stepping into a B'way theatre were there? Do I think Mr. Diddy was the best choice for Walter Lee? ....well.....
fwb
Word, Fredi. For everyone Hugh Jackman or Reba McIntyre, there's a Melanie and a Melanie.
Do you have any upcoming Bway plans or are you going to be focussing on your art ed project for a while? (Is this Big Spoons?)

Yeah, really! I'm learning a lot of new things tonight!
Dammit, OneSong, you ALWAYS have to steal my thunder, don't you?
Beat that.

Oh, Tiff! Too funny!
If you go to 'guidelines' it tells you how to make all sort of smiles
Hmmmmm. Question. What was the best part about working in Rent? was it ever sort of weird knowing that kids were camping outside the theatre for tickets etc...
Oh, and about the post earlier about the 'We're Okay' phone incident... sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh a little bit... Its things like that that makes me love live theatre so much
'Dammit, OneSong, you ALWAYS have to steal my thunder, don't you?
Beat that.'
Haha okay you win, seeing as I'm computer illiterate
Off topic, but FabalaCohen, is your "Cheeky" comment in your siggy a LOTR thing? Or more specifically, a Dominic Monaghan thing?
Back on topic: Fredi, have you gotten a chance to see the new Broadway cast? If you did, was there anyone that stuck out for you?
*eta* Tiff....I almost peed myself when I saw that smiley LOL (not literally, but I was laughing REALLY HARD!)

is that right?
LOVE THE FLOATING DEVIL---LOL
of course you laugh at the phone story -- it's funny in retrospect..
but that wasn't "were okay" that was during the opening number (RENT)
I've got a GREAT ONE that did happen during "We're Okay"..
ready?
I'm doing the number and I'm at the part where I have a phone in each hand when my mike goes out....
There's a hand held mike on the side (near the MD's seat) but my hands are already full!!!
I'm juggling the mike and the 2 phones like a circus monkey but finally I get to the part of the song where I need a phone in each hand -
there was nothing to do but stick the mike in my boobs!!!
the audience hooted.... so did I
fwb
haha Oh man! Well, what else could you do??
Curious, did you put a lot of your own personality in Joanne? I've always found myself relating most to Mark and Joanne (particularly the organizational freak - hence the nickname - and hopefully going into human rights law).
LMAO
Any funny stories about the other cast members you can share? AT least that story didnt involve you hurting yourself in any way!
Great story!
I have a question for you, did you have any really odd jobs before you became a successful actor?
Ryan from Tennessee.
'but that wasn't "were okay" that was during the opening number (RENT)'
Right sorry not exactly the brightest crayon in the box at 12:20 in the morning...
And that last story was great

Did my questions from a little while ago vanish? Because they aren't showing up on my page....I guess I'll repost - sorry if this now double posts!
Fredi, When I was in HS, We created a pilot program for young elementary students to educate them in the arts. The following year, we took the program a step further and modified it to prepare them for a statewide test which was used to evaluate student progress and all that jazz. The program worked wonderfully, and helped boost scores by infusing (at times) difficult knowledge with live theatre performances and games. I was lucky enough to, along with a few others, present the entire program's ideas to a conference of educators from around the state.
It is quite interesting to see the impact the art can have when modified accordingly.
And yes, that idea of directing makes complete sense. Actually, I tend to think the same way. When working on a portion in which the staging really affects the material, I tend to work from stage pictures... and the rest of the blocking fills in the in-between points.
Any opinions on the influx of "names" into Broadway productions? Like was stated earlier, its a business and whatever producers feel will help insure their investment's worth will occur - but beyond that, some feel there are people which 1) don't put any more people in seats 2) degrade the quality of the overall production by being sub-standard. Any opinions?
