I kept thinking about the draft Gore movement and pondered that while the Democrats have several ready-to-rule candidates, the Repubelicans seem a little light in the gravitas department- and maybe they'd see a "draft _________" movement emerge. So I thought- who is the Repubelican's "grand Old Man"? Who is seasoned, still young enough to run and could win in 2008? Bob Dole? Too Old. Dick Cheney? Too satan-y. George HW Bush? Too loserish. Then it hit me.
Vice President Dan Quayle! Why aren't the Repubelicans drafting Dan? He could even modify the old Nixon slogan: "Tan, rested and reddy!"

"And you thought the last one was a numbskull!"
the really (needs to be) committed wing of the gop seems to be whispering jeb's name.
It's true. I'm hearing it too. Which shows how desperate they are.
I think JEB in the race would be great. Then the Democrats could really make the election about our corrupt, war criminal president.
i'm thinking huck's got a much better chance than anyone is giving him credit for.
But could anyone seriously say "President HUCKABEE" without laughing?
can it be any worse than the fact that half the country right now thinks that dubya's middle name is actually "f*cking".

Obviously I started this thread to poke some fun at a man so inept he managed to be an embarrassment to the most embarrassing US Office- Vice President. Btu seriously, Who will end up the Republican Nominee? I don't think any of the so-called serious candidates can sew it up- Huckabee is a possibility but I don't see him galvanizing the election. I think they have some problems right now.
huck can do it.
f*ck rudy.
i'm officially a huckster.
I have a very liberal teacher that one day, very shamefully, admitted to us that he was related to Dan Quayle. This is apparently a great source of inner frustration to him. Don't blame him in the least.
(CNN)–Speaking before a gathering of Christian conservative voters, GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said legalized abortion in the United States was a holocaust.
"Sometimes we talk about why we're importing so many people in our workforce," the former Arkansas governor said. "It might be for the last 35 years, we have aborted more than a million people who would have been in our workforce had we not had the holocaust of liberalized abortion under a flawed Supreme Court ruling in 1973."
i'd say that he knows his audience, that he had to throw raw bleeding red meat to the faithful, but i believe that mike would stand behind that sentence 100% regardless of where he spoke it and regardless of who assails him for it. this comes on the heels of his being blasted for being insensitive about suicide for the comment about the other candidates "sitting in a warm tub with razor blades." we'll see if he issues an apology, but i wouldn't hold yer breath.

I'm proud to say that I visited an adult bookstore with a cousin of Dan Quayles. Talk about your Brush With Greatness.
It would be fine with me if Huckabee got the nomination. He would be a great choice for any Dem. to win. After Bush I think he is WAY to conservative for any moderate, swing vote, etc. to consider. He may get the super right wing vote, but I don't think much else.
actually huck's got a lot of appeal with the libertarians and independents with the fair tax plan. his biggest weakness is that he's too soft on immigration. no one wants to say it, but immigration's as big an issue in '08 as iraq or health care or taxes. the winner in '08 will have to prove themselves on that specific issue. if huck doesn't evolve on that it'll doom him as the nominee, but not as the veep candidate.
bear in mind now that he's running in the gop primary so he's using a message designed to resonate with the gop faithful. it won't be the same campaign should he'll use should he get the nomination.
regardless, the voters will always cut a candidate slack for positions with which they disagree if he or she is consistent and they feel that they're positions are based on their convictions. better the devil you know. even in this climate.
He would be a good veep and add to the GOP ticket (not that I want a good GOP ticket) esp. as the front runners are trying to out-conserve each other...
the problem for most of the gop candidates is that they are trying to run away from their records, especially on the social issues they worry so much about. i would love to have seen one or two be unapologetic about their previous positions, but the only one i see who's got any balls among the bunch (of the ones who have a shot) is huck. even if he is a baptist preacherman.

The problem with Huckabee is that America is not ready to elect an Arkansas governor President.
i worry too, joe, about how america will react to the man from hope.
