Here is the thread to show the world just how sacred some of the heterosexual community takes it's wedding vows. Post wedding announcements, divorce announcements or outrageous displays of Holy Materialmony...
Today's happy couple is...

oh jesus....
I'm all for gay marriage and I'd rather see the gayest couple on the face of the Earth get married than these two. Can you only imagine the mutant redneck children?
And on amother note, I'm glad to see John Cusack won't be stalked anymore.
Anyway, the sanctity of marriage died whenever 50% of America started divorcing the other 50%. I think that homosexuals should be able to marry wherever the hell they want to. i was borught up hearing the whole "it's a free country." spiel and I'm sick of people taking away other people's rights because of their own beliefs. You don't have the job to control other people's lives.

What a wonderful idea for a thread!
Here's a slightly old little list of santimonious Republican hypocrites who say homosexuals are threatening the institution of marriage even though they themseves can't honor it.
===
*Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Reagan who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.
*Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through the long recovery from his war wounds.
*Neil Bush - George W. Bush's Brother - divorced
*Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.
*Dick Armey - divorced
*Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas- divorced
*Gov. John Engler of Michigan- divorced
*Gov. Pete Wilson of California- divorced
*George Will - divorced
*Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced
*Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and four divorces between them.
*Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times. Barr had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Marriage Act." A Capitol Hill joke: "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?!?"
*Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York- Catholic but divorced
*Mayor Rudy Giuliani – Catholic but divorced TWICE
*Sen. John Warner of Virginia- divorced (once married to Liz Taylor.)
*Gov. George Allen of Virginia- divorced
*Henry Kissinger - divorced
*Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho- divorced
*Sen. John McCain of Arizona- divorced
*Rep. John Kasich of Ohio- divorced
*Rep. Susan Molinari of New York- Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker - Catholic but divorced
*Gov William Weld, divorced Susan Roosevelt Weld, mother of his five children.

"Here is the thread to show the world just how sacred the heterosexual community takes it's wedding vows."
Some members of the heterosexual community DO hold their marriage vows sacred.
Most, in fact.
My parents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last August, and are a shining example of commitment and love. They've survived agonizingly difficult times, but have worked hard to make their marriage a successful one.
I'm sorry that there is discrimination against same-sex marriage and laws preventing all committed couples from joining in marriage. As I've written in other threads, I've actively worked to overturn these laws, and wholeheartedly disagree with them.
But, I will never mock the sanctity of marriage and take away from those who make a commitment to their vows.
Sorry to be such a spoil-sport. I hate the mockery that many in the Hollywood community (and elsewhere) make of marriage. But I won't denegrate those who hold their vows sacred.

Posted: 7/19/06 at 2:15pmAddy--I honor and respect your parents' marriage, as well as all long-lasting marriages or friendships. My beef is with hypocrites and hypocrites only.

#13the sanctity of (straight) marriage thread
Posted: 7/19/06 at 2:20pmI am straight and married and will uphold the sancitity of marriage as best as I can. But, I am all for gay marriage and can't stand heterosexual hypocrites who are divorced, adulterers, etc. then want to say "We have to uphold the sanctity of marriage."

Of course there are people who hold this commitment in highest regard. I didn't mean that there weren't, but as PJ said, there seems to be a double standard with a lot of the anti-gay marriage posse.
And you can't really look at the divorce rate, either, because how many of the straight couples who do NOT get divorced live in loveless marriages for the sake of the children, say, or for financial reasons...
And how many are having affairs with other people than their cherished spouses?
Perhaps I worded the original post poorly, I am just sick of having all this hetero **** thrown in my face on a daily basis, yet I am not allowed to do the same with my partner.
I know that most, if not all, of the hets here support gay-marriage, so it really isn't meant as a personal attack on anyone here.
