The fact that they even considered closing Groton borders on insanity.
Having said that, I always found it a bit strange that those screaming for defense cuts always did a 360 when forced with a base closing in their area. This is especially true for lawmakers such as Ted Kennedy. The military is big & bad but "Close a base in my state" . Oh no, the security of the whole country will go down the drain if that happens. Another example of NIMBY syndrome which plagues every aspect of American life
What hypocrites - especially the politicians. Now I see why I have washed my hands of the whole phony lot of them
