The Thin Man Movies

I just love these films. FOund my box set I bought several years back still in the shrink wrap. Watched them this past weekend and must say, Powell and Loy made the best on screen couple ever.

Out of all of them I liked the first two the best. All of them are fun, but I felt the The Thin Man and After the Thin Man were the best.

Oh yeah, I also loved Asta!

The Thin Man Movies

Sorry, they just don't make them like this anymore!

Yes, she's my 2nd Fox Terrier rescue. I was heartbroken when her predecessor, Finnegan, died and swore I would never get another Fox Terrier, because no one could replace him.

Then I met Miss Holly and it was love at first sight.

People on the street come up to us and say, "It's ASTA!"

Dude, I want that dog!

I even love your names. Finnegan and Miss Holly. Those are the names of spoiled pooches!

I can't believe you've never seen pictures of her here. I post them endlessly.

And we really should get back to talking about the movies, but she kind of is part of the world of the Thin Man.

Miss Holly would make a great partner for Nick and Nora and Asta because she likes to stick her nose into things:

Pal, did you name her for Miss Holly of Mr. Bingle fame?

re: The Thin Man Movies

No her name was Harley when we got her, short for Harley Davidson, because they said she was the fastest in the litter.

But I thought she needed a more elegant name, and Harley sounded almost like Holly, short for Holly Golightly.

So like Capote's Holly, our Miss Holly dresses up nice and looks like a classy dame, but deep down inside she's really just a biker's bitch.

This is her mugshot. She retreated to the corner because she did something REALLY bad.

ANOTHER THIN MAN (the third one) is my favorite. It's a little long, but it has a truly inspired crime scheme and a totally unexpected ending.
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

Love the Thin Man movies too. Some of my favorite quotes are from those films.

"Waiter, will you serve the nuts? I mean will you serve the guests the nuts."

I hate to admit it too, but I love the score to Nick & Nora. The book and direction were terrible, but I think Strouse wrote some good music, and Christine Baranski was amazing.

PS- Miss Holly is absolutely adorable.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Pal Joey, I have never seen those pics before. Thanks for sharing! When it comes to people's pets, you can NEVER post too many pictures! In After the Thin Man I just love Asta's confrontation's with Mrs.Asta's admirer. They do anything to day with cgi to make dogs do anything but back then they REALLY had to work hard to get that dog to some of the stuff he did. I was totally amazed at this!

My fave moment of hundreds: After Myrna Loy is introduced to a thug who pumps her hand instead of shaking it, she says to William Powell:

"Nicky. You always know such INTERESTING people."

re: The Thin Man Movies

Those two had the best screen chemistry EVER.

Powell and Loy as Nick and Nora were uniquely American AND sophisticated. I just love those films.

What great ones do the less will prattle of
