The White Countess with Fiennes and the Redgraves

Anyone heard anything about this?

It's the final Merchant & Ivory film (Merchant died earlier this year) starring Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, and Lynn Redgrave with a screenplay by Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day). It opens in NY and LA on December 21st.

I haven't heard any buzz on this at all. I would have thought more would be made regarding this as the final Merchant-Ivory film....

I know that the national ad campaign is gearing up, and I believe that trailers are being released to theatres.

But, the buzz has been relatively quiet.

Of interest is that they are billing it simply as being directed by James Ivory.

i ADORE merchant/ivory films. (my favorite being MAURICE.) i did not realize merchant had passed. he will be greatly missed. glad to hear about this new/final film, though!

There's an interesting-looking two page ad for the film in the current issue of Premiere, with Fiennes and Richardson looking beautiful together.

The official website is slated to be up and running some time this week.

Some of the advance reviews have been weak, but the draw of a final Merchant & Ivory film and such a stellar cast is going to be strong, regardless of the reviews.
