Hello. I haven't really been here in months, but a friend asked me to get the word out, so I figured it can't hurt.
"The Word Begins", a show by Steve Connell and Sekou tha Misfit (of Slam Poet fame), will be playing at Joe's Pub tonight at 7 pm.
Here's the blurb in case you're interested:
"The Word Begins is a two-man show, directed by Robert Egan, that celebrates the spoken word, the human heart and the challenging world of America today. Steve Connell and Sekou (tha misfit) are two of this country's premiere spoken word artists. They take on race relations, religion, sexuality, love and the power of mass communication - among other great American issues - and they do it in the extraordinarily refreshing and exhilarating performance form of spoken word meets dramatic scenes meets sketch comedy meets modern minstrel show meets hip hop culture. They perform 'almost as one' with a timing, emotion and passion that brings a renewed life and electricity onto the stage."
Cheers!

"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?" "Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good." He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?" "Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women." "My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much." "Did you say, 'nonetheless'?" - The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler
