I bought this DVD knowing what I was getting and I am so glad I got this. I strongly reccomend this DVD! Short summary:

"The World According To Sesame Street explores the behind-the-scenes drama, challenges, and rewarding outcome of producing local versions of the worlds most watched children's television program. The film follows dedicated Sesame producers around the globe as they team with local producers to bring to life the shows in Bangladesh, Kosovo, and South Africa."

Adult Subject Matter, Not intended for children under 14.

Watch it and you'll see. It deals with war, politics, AIDS, and many other things.

I recently saw this on our local PBS station. What a fascinating movie!

I especially loved the the segments in Kosovo, where you could just FEEL the tension in the room as members of the two different cultures tried to make decisions about what was best and how this program could show a united country. I mean, if the people creating the show can't get along.......

It was also great to see how the Children's Television Workshop doesn't just go into a country and make a cookie cutter replication of the US show. They develop their own new characters and deal with issues the children of that country are facing.

This movie also makes you think about how something as simple as a kids TV show can really change the attitudes and outlook of the people who watch it.

Agreed wendy. And I loved seeing clips of the productions there, they are really different from the one here.
