... is driving me crazy! It is WAY too early for Christmas music, but I can't wait to hear it. The clips I have heard sound terrific!
Just popped into Restoration Hardware at lunchtime, and let me tell ya: It's full-on Christmas in there.
They were playing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."
Kid you not.
I for one can't wait until the Xmas songs start playing EVERYWHERE full blast! I loooove them.
I love them too, Evie. But I'd like a little Halloween and Thanksgiving time first.
But I'm willing the slap the carols on the stereo while the turkey platter's being washed.
Meanwhile, it's like Fourth of July out there.
I will have Kristin's album loaded to my iPod to be listened to on Thanksgiving Day, but not before!
Last week, Faith Hill, Melissa Etheridge, Amy Grant, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Al Jarreau, George Strait, Mannheim Steamroller, and Elliot Yamin (wtf?) all released xmas albums.
I can't wait to start playing them!

You give more presents at Christmas than at Halloween or Thanksgiving in America. That means you spend more money for Christmas. Manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers are hoping to recover losses this Christmas.
At least that would be my guess.

Oh, of course, Krissy. I also imagine a lot of consumers are going to need to spread their Christmas spending over several months.
But retailers have been "starting" Christmas earlier and earlier for the past decade.

I am obsessed with Christmas music, not sure why. So I love the new Christmas albums being released. I bought Kristin's, only have listened to it once, but I love it. I was going to buy Faith Hill's, but I have heard it is not that great? I did, however, buy her song, "A Baby Changes Everything," which is an amazing new Christmas song. I would love for Kelly Clarkson to put out a Christmas album.

"Charlie Brown Christmas" is my favorite, too. If I need a little Christmas early, I'll put that on and just say "It's not Christmas music; it's jazz!" Though I won't let myself listen to the vocal version of "Christmastime Is Here" until after Thanksgiving.
I do agree they start the Christmas stuff way too early, but once Thanksgiving is over my house will be full on Christmas!
And why did they put Halloween candy in the stores before school even started? I mean really......who buys their Halloween candy that early? If I did, I'd have eaten it all 5 times over before Halloween!
Halloween candy sales amount to huge dollars for the industry. They'll sell all of it, as anyone who's waited until the last minute to buy it can attest. Here's the others in order of sales:
1. Halloween
2. Christmas
3. Easter
4. Valentine's Day
5. Mother's Day

Part of the fun for me is being "made" to wait for the holiday.
I have a whole list of Christmas cheats that I allow myself--like the "Charlie Brown Christmas" CD. Mostly movies that aren't Christmas movies, but that have Christmas scenes in them. Those I can watch as early as I want.
Little Women
The Lion in Winter
Desk Set
You've Got Mail
. . . you get the idea.
Yeah, yeah, I know....but do people really buy it that early and hang on to it all that time without eating it? I mean seriously......
My grocery store never runs out, so I always wait until a few days before.

I was out walking my dog on Monday and I saw two guys walking down the street, each carrying a fully decorated fake Christmas tree. I'm not sure where they were going or what they were doing with them.
I don't like to watch my favorite Christmas movies until after Thanksgiving.
I agree, Phyllis. That's why I have my NON-Christmas movies.
Reg, what about "Meet Me In St. Louis?"
Oh, yes, Stockard!
Mine was a far from complete list. Just giving you an idea of what I'm talking about.
I know!
I love "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"

Well, I only have two movies I consider my Christmas movies, so I usually make them a double feature the day after Thanksgiving.
While we're on the subject of Christmas (and movies), how is it My Favorite Things is considered a Christmas song? Is it because of the packages and snow that are each mentioned once?

I don't see My Favorite Things as a Christmas song either.
Stockard, they're counting on the fact that we don't have willpower and will have to buy more candy, two or three times before Halloween.
