I am going into my sophomore year in college and am a Theatre major. I really want to act but I would also love to get into nonprofit youth/children's theatre. Can anyone recommend some possible places I should look into for acting and/or teaching internships? Thanks ahead of time! (Oh! anything in NYC would be wonderful but I'm open to going elsewhere.)

Why not in your own neighborhood? Check the theatres in your local area - visit their websites or give them a call. Even if they don't advertise internships, still call and ask.

Then try the closest major city.

If you're set on going away - try Chicago before you try New York City. Do a Google search: "Theatre+internship+CITY"

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The TDF website also lists a lot of theatres with intern positions.

Playbill lists some, too. Look under the job listings.
