Gorgeous video of Bowie's 3 songs on Saturday Night Live, just as the pendulum was about to swing in a scary direction in the country. Featuring all sorts of great things, a poodle TV, Joey Arias, Klaus Nomi and more. I remember exactly where I was as I watched.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
Bowie is a fascinating character, and I once wrote an essay on drag and Bowie. He's a very unconventional queer figure: an ultimately conservative, conventionally religious heterosexual fellow, really your Classic English Gentleman, who nonetheless lives a life in social and fashionable drag of one kind or another behind persona after persona, which in public supersede his apparently true self. Bowie is what he is, but his insistence that he can nonetheless be whatever the hell he wants was refreshing, even though some of his pretenses- gay man, fascist sympathizer- were less than PC.
LOVED this. Never seen it before. And TVC15 is one of my favorite Bowie songs, too. God, I'm still kicking myself for missing his last (and probably final) tour.
