This is Julie Kent's farewell season with ABT!

Just received my mailer for the ABT spring season and the dreaded day has arrived that Julie Kent will dance her final performance with the company.

At least she will go out with a bang, performing in Romeo and Juliet on June 20. She is heartbreaking in the role, and her performance in the pas de deux is as close to perfection as you will find in ballet today. I'm getting my tickets now and thought I'd give a heads up to the other ballet fans here.

If you've never seen her dance she is also performing in Othello, Giselle and Pillar of Fire on the "Classic ABT" program.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Paloma Herrera and Xiomara Reyes are also retiring this season.

I kind of wish Julie Kent would close out her career with Giselle.

I saw Carreno and Corella's final performances with ABT, but I'm not going to make the trip up to see any of the women this year unfortunately.

Oh Dottie, that's too bad. I am arranging my schedule right now to make sure I see all four of Kent's roles this season. I'm very sad about this news.

I'm not familiar with Reyes, but I'll try to catch Herrera before she departs as well.

I've seen her several times, with Marcelo Gomes and Roberto Bolle. She has always exuded such class and elegance.

Wonderful article on the three principal women who are retiring this season. And reading in between the lines, all the more reason for Kevin McKenzie to think about stepping down from his role as artistic director. I've never really cared for him, and both Reyes and Herrera take him to task.

How was she? I thought she would stay with the company longer--but I have no doubt that she will have many years at other companies as a featured artist (one thing that I need to wrap my head around as a ballet fan is just how short a life it is.)

I saw Kent as a guest artist for PNB's Balanchine and Robbins works three years back--she was the "mirror" in Robbins' Afternoon of a Faun. I've seen that piece before--and honestly, I would rather see the recreation of Nijinsky's version at this point--but she was *magentic*. I am really glad that I saw her--and I can imagine that she would especially make a good Giselle or Odette--I don't think Odile would be beayond her means, but she just radiates empathy.=

Eric, not sure who your "how was she?" was directed to.

Seeing as though Giselle is being performed Memorial Day, I decided to go up and see Julie's last Giselle with ABT at the Met. She is one of my favorites in the role.

ABT is in DC this week, but Julie is injured. I was supposed to see her Wednesday evening. Gillian Murphy danced in her place.

I think Julie stopped dancing Odette/Odile a couple of seasons ago.
