To cut, or not to cut?

To cut, or not to cut?

I have an audition on Saturday, and I have to prepare a 60 second monologue. The problem is that my monologue is about a minute or so longer than that. If I cut it, it runs the risk of not being as funny and not making any sense. So my question is: should I just cut some of it anyway, or should I do the whole thing from the beginning and let them cut me off when they've heard enough?

How much over are you? If the punchline is in the last few seconds and the rest of the monologue is not funny, I say cut some of it, otherwise once you go over, they'll cut you off thinking that's the best you got.

BTW, thanks for the cop out subject title!

"It's not always about you!!!" (But if you think I'm referring to you anyway, then I probably am.)

CUT CUT CUT! nothing looks worse than getting cut off. it means you connot follow directions.

if the monologue looses its effeciveness, then find a new one.

After your audition you can always ask "Would you like to see anything else?" and if they say yes you could do the funny two-minute one you already have!

break a leg!

Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking. My monologue is from Crimes of the Heart. It was originally a scene between Babe and Barnette, where she tells him what happened after she shot her husband, but we cut Barnette's lines and made it a monologue. If I cut more of it, her story doesn't make any sense, because the whole reason it's funny is because she goes into so many details. But I guess I can just use my Angels in America one that's quite a bit shorter. Thanks so much!
