To wicked fans who have been here a while

Has your passion for the show decreased a little? I know mine has, a little bit anyway. Ever since I made annoying posts and got yelled at, I sort of sunk back and became boring and mean. I don't look at Wicked the same way, and it's like I'm a whole different person. It makes me kinda sad. How bout you guys?

Gee, phantom, many of us have live at the Off-Topic Board so as to escape any mention of WICKED.

But, once the horse is out of the barn, I guess its too late to close the door...

i most deifnitely haven't lost any love for wicked. i've just lost respect for many of it's preteen fans. the type of FANS doesn't affect my thinking of the SHOW.

A little...but I think that's just my natural cycle of obssessions, and nothing really to do with groupies here.

Definitely.

First of all, I'm going to assume this isn't a prime example of the friendlier type of communication that you've been touting.

Second of all, there are actually some of us here who can appreciate Wicked for what it is and let it go at that - without having to denigrate or demean those who hold differing opinions.

re: To wicked fans who have been here a while

I only like Wicked for one reason, and one reason only:

Jennifer Laura Thompson.

I saw the show in March on a field trip, and found it looooong and somewhat popish and boring. Not to mention, it really pissed me off when I had to sing, not one, not two, but three songs from it with other girls for my final singing project in chorus. However, I went back in August to see Jen, and now I appreciate it a little more. I mean, I own the cast recording and I have the poster (with Jen's name) hanging up in my room. I will probably see it another couple of times before she leaves...

DG, every time I read one of your posts I'm sitting there nodding my head or laughing my head off. It's almost scary how much I agree with you sometimes.

I'm not being a groupie but people like you make this board worthwhile. Thank you!

re: To wicked fans who have been here a while

Absolutely not. It just saddens me that people feel the need to constantly bash it and put down those individuals who truly enjoy the show. I've read such pathetic posts saying that Wicked is trash and that people who like it don't have the same broadway knowledge as those who loathe it, are teeny-boppers, etc. (of course, paraphrased, but you get what I mean). It's incredibly ironic and sad, as they have no clue about the broadway acumen, intellectual capabilities/accomplishments, or the age of those people who do enjoy the show. I take this board for what it is.... and to be honest, lately, it has been nothing more than a bash-fest of anyone who disagrees with the poster's opinions, respectively.

re: To wicked fans who have been here a while

I think its funny that most of the people who posted on this thread were not here before or around Tony time. It was ridiculous. People were starting threads on the dumbest things that were marginally connected to Wicked. You have to know your BWW history to understand why there is such an anti-Wicked sentiment. The main board was clogged with all these posts about Wicked. Some of it was "What makeup does Idina use?!" or "Look at these Wizard of Oz Barbie Dolls!" Let me note that these Barbie Dolls were not connected to Wicked and there were girls saying, "OMG they look just like Idina and Kristen. They did a good job!" You wouldn't believe how many "Idina or Kristen?" threads clogged up this board and they even went into this whole spiel about how Kristen and Idina don't like each other. I am just skimming the surface of the Wickedite mentality that over ran the board. Pardon if some of us long term posters are cranky when it comes to Wicked, but any apathy or irritation when it comes to Wicked comes from bad experiences with Wicked fans more than anything else. Most people on the board don't actually hate Wicked, but they project their hatred of the teeny bopper "OMG IDINA IS MEAN BECAUSE SHE IS QUIET!" mentality onto the show. I personally don't hate Wicked. Actually there were several board members who liked it and gave a good detailed review of what they liked. They were thanked by the board members who had been irritated at the other mindless fans of the show. So remember to post with intelligence and forgive us if we are cranky.

re: To wicked fans who have been here a while

I was obsessed with the cast recording and Idina and Kristin before I saw the show. And I mean OBSESSED. I saw the show in July and was still obsessed. Then junior year started and I just didn't have time to listen to the entire cast recording everyday like I used to. Wicked is still my absolute favorite and I am still "obsessed" with it, as my parents like to say, but I am branching out and listening to other things. I have not lost any love for the show. I am seeing it again on Tuesday and am insanely excited. It was really just a matter of time and not because of the Wicked-bashing and countless posts (I have read these boards since April, so I remember the Tony-time craze, and I admit I did read every single Wicked post around that time).

re: To wicked fans who have been here a while

Thanks for your explanation son_of_a_gunn. I actually lurked on the site long before I mustered the courage to post and understand your sentiments re: To wicked fans who have been here a while. I don't think Wicked is the end all be all, but I did really enjoy it. I needed a show to make me forget about the craziness in the world, and it did exactly that for me.

re: to wicked fans who have been here a while

son, i am planning to officially nominate you as board historian.

dgrant, i have so had it with you attacking poor innocent maryf***ingethel! your cruelty is legend on this board and i am not suprised to see you turn it upon this poor undeserving, upstanding poster. only when the kind of meanspirited viciousness that you practice has been wiped from the board shall we ever hope to evolve to a higher level of cyber discourse. i am ashamed to have to type this post, but it's obvious that your evil knows no bounds and it's just a matter of time before your wanton barbarism destroys the good and wonderful people of middle earth, uh, i mean broadwayworld. so take heed you venomous purveyor of fiendishness, the good and righteous people of bww are on to you. you have been warned!!

re: to wicked fans who have been here a while

There was a time when Wicked was all I listened to..but it depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm craving some belting and sopranos, other times I'm craving some Daphne. or Sutton. Or Malcolm..etc..
But Wicked def. has a lesser effect on me now then when I first started listening to it. Still love it and all, but I've discovered there are other shows worth my listen

re: to wicked fans who have been here a while

I've lost some of my obsession, too, but, to be totally honest, its because I saw the show lol.

Been there, done that. I'll consider seeing it again with Jen and Shoshana re: to wicked fans who have been here a while
