Ooooh, I have it! I have it! Hooray for you ~ Nice choice! I simply adore it! =D
"Drop it"
(Rachel Claff)
Rachel:
I Hate New Year's Eve. What a miserable excuse for a holiday. Okay, sure, it's great if you actually have a date to celebrate with, but for the rest of the world, including me, it's go to the stupid party, get drunk, watch Dick Clark and a bunch of candy-coated pop singers counting down in Times Square where a whole bunch of people jammed together even drunker than you are honk annoying little horns and sing an incomprehensible song written in a language that's older than God.
Sure, you could call me bitter. Yeah, okay, I'm a little bitter. But honestly - I don't think it's being single or dateless or even the booze that gets me depressed. Know what it is? That goddamned ball drop. Descending on us, inch by inch, all lit up with promises we didn't keep, places we didn't go, people we didn't call, the resolutions that stayed unresolved all year long and now the year's over, last chance, whoops, too late. Three, two, one, crunch. Happy New Year.
The thing is, it should go up.
The ball. It should go up. It should start to rise, very slowly at first, and then just - go, sailing higher and higher until it's barely visible, just a glimmer, a star, a tiny little reminder. No countdown, just -
And everyone holds their breath and follows it with their eyes, really quiet. And when it finally disappears, we all stop looking at the night sky and come back to each other and stare at each other in total amazement. Like we're seeing each other for the first time.
That's how it should be, I think.
