Too many movie musicals?

I love the ideas of all these musicals being made into movies...but it seems to me that if they are all opening within the same year, which many of them will be, that they will be more compettiive with eachother...like I'd rather see them spread out over time.

As I always say, I'll believe it when I see it. How long ago was it when we were talking about Guys and Dolls with Nicole Kidman?

It may seem like there are loads of movie musicals in the pipeline, but the reality is very different.

It's not that unusual in the movie biz. When one niche genre film is a hit, or more often, a suprise hit, there's 5-6 copycats rushed to the screen.

There can't be too many movie musicals as far as I'm concerned, but as soon as the entertainment industry hits on a good idea they tend to pound it to death. Just look at "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." :P

So basically, I think it might be for the best over the long term to keep quantity down so quality stays high. Something is better than nothing.

This movie musical trend will continue until there is a major musical flop (which could happen sooner than later), like regular movie flops such as "Howard The Duck" or "Heaven's Gate". When that happens the trend will then slow down or come to a complete stop. These things seem to go in cycles.

Plum, I agree with you... never enough movie musicals, as far as I'm concerned.

And yes, the site looks different to me as well.

there can never be too many. i've always said i was born in the wrong era. think about how amazing it would've been to have lived during the mgm era.

I really don't like the side bar. But I guess the site needs the ad revenue. re: Too many movie musicals?

At this point, we can't have enough. More I say! We went for too long without any!

Word. Word, indeed.

there could never be too many movie musicals!!! it's awesome that musical theater is being reintroduced to the general public this way!! it's also cool b/c yeah they're are video bootlegs of shows but the quality is not so good and the shows were not meant to be seen on a small screen - the movies will immortalize the shows!!

I agree with everyone saying we can't have too much. Not everyone lives in NYC, after all. For some of us, movie musicals are a blessing.
