That thud you hear is my jump off the Desperate Housewives bandwagon. The first season was very addictive -- very campy, full of intrigue, wonderfully written, and brilliantly acted. This season however, is dull, lifeless, and predictible. Worst yet, there have only been 4 new episodes since the beginning of the year. Granted, ABC did have to air the Dancing With the Stars finale and the Oscars, but when DH is back on the schedule, all they can air is yet-another repeat. Case in point---
1/22/06 - new episode
1/29/06 -- REPEAT
2/5/06 -- REPEAT
2/12/06 -- new episode
2/19/06 -- new episode (wow....2 weeks in a row??!?)
2/26/06 -- Dancing With The Stars Finale
3/5/06 -- Oscars
3/12/06 -- new episode
3/19/06 -- REPEAT
I guess when season two is released on DVD, it'll be a single disc

I'm with you The8re phan. I wrote them off last night as well.
ABC did the same thing with The Practice years ago. I was a devoted fan, then all of a sudden the new episodes were few and far between. After a while, I didn't care anymore, so I stopped watching. I even wrote ABC a letter.
Last week's episode of DH was very disjointed, and the sporadic airing schedule definitely doesn't help matters.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 10:42amThe lack of new episodes has been disappointing lately. I haven't given up on the show yet, though. Next week there's a new episode and it actually looks good. Bree passing out in a department store and getting locked in, Mike and Susan's doctor boyfriend having a confrontation...I'm looking forward to it.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 10:49amWhat made me love Desperate Housewives last season was the fact that were constantly shocked and surprised. And each surprise was deliberate and took the storylines in a new direction. Not so this year. I'm not giving up yet, though.

I loved the show last year but so far it is just eh for many of the reasons other people have noted. It does not help that Grey's Anatomy has had so many new episodes since January 1st and they have all been amazing. Even when both are new I notice myself completely forgetting what happened in Housewives because Grey's is just a better show. And it isn't just because it is after Housewives either, because I watch The West Wing at 8 and that is always memorable to me.
Next weeks show looks interesting so I won't give up on it, I am just getting very annoyed

The8re, I want to apologize....until children&art posted his post, I had not realized how negative I sounded. I do NOT ever want to come across as rude and nasty as he does, so...I was out of line, and I apologize.
(and thank you bdwaygirl, I needed that kick in the pants)

Be thankful I don't start threads on my t.v. viewing habits. You'd really be in for a snoozefest!

This sort of programming is happening across the board. Tons of shows have had repeats or been on hiatus this season. Most commonly, due to the Olympics, and various other reasons. It's becoming a habit with all the networks. The Sopranos leaves for a year and a half at a time, Everwood is returning next week after being off for over three months, Surface has it's "season finale" on episode 15, the first "season" of Grey's Anatomy is only 7 episodes, etc. Networks are not concerned with consistency or dedication. At least Desperate Housewives hasn't changed nights. I just use my DVR because I never know when anything airs any more.
PS - DH will have a total of 19 new episodes this season, which is not much below the average 22.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:36pmI am starting to get annoyed with Desperate Housewives for the same reason. It's definetly been replaced by Gray's Anatomy as my favorite Sunday night show, now.

Mister Matt, is it a fact that the networks don't care about the level of consistency, and dedication of its viewers? Or is it speculation based on current airing trends?
Granted, The Sopranos might not have had a new episode in over a year, but at least once they return, the episodes are run in order over a period of time, without a break in shows.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 3:16pmi think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Marc Cherry doesn't write the episodes for "DH" anymore.

nope, he only wrote for season 1, these episodes (from imdb.com):
Unaired Pilot (????) - Writer (writer)
Pilot (3 October 2004) - Writer (writer)
Ah, But Underneath (10 October 2004) - Writer (writer)
Who's That Woman? (24 October 2004) - Writer (writer)
Impossible (20 February 2005) - Writer (writer)
One Wonderful Day (22 May 2005) - Writer (writer)
Color and Light (13 November 2005) - Writer (writer)
he's just the executive producer now.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 4:13pmI used to love this show and watched every episode the first season. What used to be a witty show full of mystery has become nothing better than predictable and barely better than a daytime soap (no offense to soap watchers).

Posted: 3/20/06 at 5:42pmDottie - It is speculation, which is a reasonable conclusion given to fact. Shorter seasons, sporadic programming, increased repeats thoughout the season; sounds like the networks are not doing much to keep the momentum of viewer interest. What used to exist as a "season" has now been divided into half-seasons at which any show may disappear and reappear at will or new shows are introduced. DH was a show that became a phenomenon in the first season, but in its second season has been aired with a feeling of apathy towards its viewers and even its own existence. Again, this is my own opinion, but it seems as if networks have little faith in many of their shows lately, with the exception of reality shows, which keep running like clockwork.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 6:13pmWrong! NBC said so, but it was bull**** if you look at the timing. They really did it because they favor shows they produce themselves over shows other companies produce. Like, say, Scrubs. And that's straight from the horse's mouth, if John C. McGinely counts as a horse.

Lost is pulling the same crap of the endless repeats -- we had a week on, repeat, week on, two repeats, two new eps. two repeats - it's SO annoying! Yet, somehow, Boston Legal, which is also an ABC show, NEVER seems to show repeats - their run seems like it's been a good 8 or 9 weeks without any.
My favorite example of this was Smallville -- new eps. early in the season as always - like three weeks of episodes - then ONE new episode - then another three or four weeks of repeats before about three new eps, and another run of four or five weeks of repeats.
If wasn't so damn impatient I'd just wait for the DVDs...
