Transatlantic Lullaby
Transatlantic Lullaby#1
Posted: 10/6/09 at 1:54amI am wondering if there are any who are familiar with this lovely song about Manhattan. It was written in England in 1939 and made popular by Turner Layton. Layton performed this song live in London during the bombings. Transatlantic Lullaby paints a beautiful vision of New York. Have you heard of it?

I've heard of it!
Not only that, my grandfather has memories of sitting in a bomb shelter listening to that very song - hoping he would live to see New York.
There is a version on iTunes by Adelaide Hall - though I like the original much better.

Posted: 10/8/09 at 2:41amThanks Happygirl. Most of my family is from New York yet the first time I hear about this song I'm in Yosemite National Park and an entertainer and music historian named Tom Bopp is performing it as a request for some of the hotel guests from England. I'm glad people can check it out.
