So I currently attend Florida School of the Arts as an MT. It's a two year school and I'm going to recieve my A.A. in Fine/Performing arts and my A.S. in musical theatre.

My question is, has anyone had any luck with transfering to a BFA program or should I just assume I'm going to end up as a freshman or sophmore again?

I was accepted as a transfer into a great BFA program.

It's really really hard. Some schools judge you just like you're a freshman auditioning, but some think that since (they're assuming) you're older, you should be at a little higher level. They may only consider transfers if they end up having an empty spot in their program. Some places don't accept transfers at all, even if you're willing to start over as a freshman.

One thing to be cautious of is that most schools will throw away your performing arts credits. Your gen eds may transfer, but any acting classes, etc. will probably only count as general electives. Also, in most cases you'll still be expected to attend the school for 4 years, which is A LOT of money in most cases. Transfer financial aid is notoriously bad, even with great academics and everything.

I would suggest possibly looking into a 2-year training program (non-degree) if you're looking to further your skills. Some in NYC include AADA, AMDA, Neighborhood Playhouse, Circle in the Square, and there may be a few others I'm not thinking of. Or you could look into a BA degree -- your credits are more likely to transfer than a BFA.

Hope that helps!! Let me know if you have any more questions
