Transformers 2 reviews

My fave quote so far:

"It's tough to make someone feel sorry for Megan Fox, yet the extent to which she's objectified in this flick has you looking for track marks, smeared mascara, and other evidence of bus-stop porn-star exploitation."

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I saw it at midnight last night. I think Roger Ebert had it right,

"If you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination."

I have to say, I was thoroughly enjoying it for about an hour before the action grew tiresome and repetitive. It's a visual mash-up that never allows the eye to focus because there is too much to look at it. The action in the final battle seems all too familiar to the first one; the audience is never given anything new or fresh.

And the critic is right about Megan Fox. In fact, nearly all the women are objectified, right down to the extras in the college scenes.

The real reason to see the movie is Julie White, who steals the show right out from under the $200 million robots.

"The problem with Bay is that he hates you. He thinks you're a moron and then you go about proving him right by making his movies obscenely popular."

LMAO!!

Absolutely, she's a riot!

The movie, like the first, has zero substance. It's pure popcorn! It's obvious that most, if not all of the money in the production was spent on effects, seeing as plot and character development are nonexistent. From the ridiculous robot dialogues to the two stereotypically "urban" transformers, I constantly wondered what these screenwriters were thinking. Expect BET to publicly complain sooner or later.

Oh GOD it's terrible. And I usually have the ability to just turn my head off and enjoy popcorn flicks, but Michael Bay managed to make explosions boring.
