I will be in NYC this coming week and noticed the tree lighting ceremony will be on Wed. It says the program starts @7. What time should we arrive if we want a chance to see anything. The earliest we can probably get there is 5:30- is that too late? Are there any other fun Holiday things we need to check out while we are there. We will be in class every day until 4:30pm, so it needs to be things we ca do in the evening. Thanks in advance for any sugestions!

It gets pretty mobbed during the tree lighting. 5:30 should be OK, but earlier might be better. (Of course you could just stay in your hotel room and watch it on TV!)

While you are in town, don't miss the beautiful windows up 5th avenue as well as Macy's on 34th and Bloomingdales on the upper east side.

Enjoy!

Speaking of windows:

Saks Fifth Ave (right by the tree lighting)

Lord and Taylors

You might also want to see the "Angel Tree" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's a collection of 150 stunning Italian presepio figures. It's awe inspiring.

I am looking forward to seeing the tree lit up. I'll be seeing "The Ritz" and FB next weekend.
DP, I thought you threw that shower?

5:30 PM might really be pushing it. Last year I decided to venture over after I got out of work at about 6 PM and couldn't get within 2 blocks. 6th Avenue was jam packed to the point of a standstill and from there you couldn't even see the tree.

I would just watch it on television. Most of the entertainment is pretaped anyways. All you would really be braving the crowds for would be to see the flick of a switch, however if you want a true New York experience, go for it.

My daughter works in the area and says people start gathering as early as 3pm, as crazy as that sounds. She said the area is mobbed with people, tv trucks and equipment, so the earlier you get there, the better. I'll be watching on tv..lol
