Trivial Pursuit #104

By 1933, Composer Jerome Kern was fed up with the turn musicals had taken on Broadway.

He called his latest project--ROBERTA--a "damned fashion show set to music!"--and he wasn't far from the truth. Trivial Pursuit #104

Kern said, "That's IT, I'm giving up Broadway for GOOD! From now on, I write MOVIE Musicals!!!"

To his utter dismay, what was Kern's first assignment when he arrived in Hollywood?

GOOD LUCK, Everybody!!! Trivial Pursuit #104

Allie, YOU GOT IT!!!

YES, when Kern arrived in Hollywood--RKO Studios handed him his first assignment--the film version of ROBERTA!

Talk about irony!!! re: Trivial Pursuit #104

Now for your bonus points:

What was the big hit song from ROBERTA, which became a hit all over again in the 1950s when sung by The Platters?
"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."

And not from the '50s.
"It's not always about you!!!" (But if you think I'm referring to you anyway, then I probably am.)

"This is my breakfast, lunch and f***ing dinner right here. I'm not even f***in' joking." - Colin Farrell

ALLIE YES!!!

You're a sharp kid for almost 3 in the morning (or whatever time zone YOU'RE in). re: Trivial Pursuit #104

YEP, The Platters took an old song from the '30s, dusted it off, and made it into a big hit ALL OVER AGAIN in the '50s!!!

And your prize?:

Well, you've just found out you've inherited a dress shop! Its run by your Aunt Minnie--who calls herself "Roberta". You're going to meet and fall in love with Roberta's assistant--who at the end of the show--oooooh--will reveal herself to be a Russian Princess!!! re: Trivial Pursuit #104

Don't stay up too late, folks! re: Trivial Pursuit #104

"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes":

They asked me how I knew
My true love was true

Oh, I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied

They said someday you'll find
All who love are blind

Oh, when your heart's on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes

So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love

Yet today my love has flown away
I am without my love

Now laughing friends deride
Tears I can not hide

Oh, so I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies

Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes
