COCO (1970) was the story of famed fashion designer Coco Chanel.

At the end of Act I, everything is in place of the showing of Chanel's latest collection--accessoried models are all in place posed properly, draperies are hung, etc. Chanel sitss in her chair and waits for the fashion show to begin. The curtain then falls on Act I.

At the top of Act II, we are back in Chanel's showroom--but everything is in disarray, the models are gone, the drapieres are falling apart, accessories are scartered everhwere, etc.

It is obviously the fashion show has not gone very well.

The one only left on stage is Chanel, still sitting in her chair.

She turns to the audience and bellows out ONE word.

What word does she say?

GOOD Luck, Everybody!!! :)

"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."

Darn Rath you beat me to it!

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

Rath, you are 100% Correct!

But I am shocked that a prim and proper lady like yourself even KNOWS that word! :)

Anyway, I bow to your awesome knowledge of COCO!

Now for your bonus points: Who played COCO in the original Broadway cast?

I have always thought that this is a terrific example of dramatic economy. When she left the stage immediately following this the audience knew everything it needed to know.

According to Garson Kanin, Kate wrote the line. Sort of like, "Well, couldn't I just say sh*t or something?"

And remember, Fanny Brice who was quite the lady off-stage, was quoted, "I think anyone who doesn't say sh*t is deceitful."

I actually just guessed. Seemed like that word would work in that situation.
