ONCE AGAIN, magruder, you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!

SUPER Job!!! re: Trivial Pursuit #49

Actually, that lyric was not an invention of Jerry Herman's--he "borrowed" it from the stage play AUNTIE MAME (source of MAME) where in the stage directions it reads, "Vera looks between forty and death."

And now magruder--for your bonus points--What song was cut from the stage version of MAME but then added to the film version of HELLO, DOLLY! ?
"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."

magruder, NOTHING gets past you, does it! re: Trivial Pursuit #49

Yep, "Love Is Only Love" was cut from the stage version of MAME but then added to the film version of HELLO, DOLLY!

(And according to one source I read, our Babs was a little irked to find out that the "new" song Jerry Herman had written for her was really a "re-cycled" one.)

So, once again, magruder, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Regarding your prize--well, a long-lost relative of yours just passed away and named you the guardian of his ten year old nephew... and it seems that the poor kid doesn't even know how to make a Martini!!! re: Trivial Pursuit #49

Enjoy your day, everyone!!! re: Trivial Pursuit #49

"Bosom Buddies":

We'll always be bosom buddies. Friends, sisters and pals
We'll always be bosom buddies
If life should reject you there's me to protect you

If I say that your tongue is vicious
If I call you uncouth it's simply that
who else but a bosom buddy will sit down and tell you the truth

Though now and again I'm aware that my candid opinion may sting
Though often my frank observation might scald,
I've been meaning to tell you for years you should keep your hair natural like mine.
If I kept my hair natural like yours I'd be bald.

But darling
If I say that your sense of style's as far off as your youth, it's simply that
who else but a bosom buddy will tell you the whole stinking truth

Each time that a critic has written your voice is the voice of a frog, straight
to your side to defend you I rush.
You know that I'm there every time that the world makes an unkind remark, when
they say Vera Charles is the worlds greatest lush it hurts me

and if I say your fangs are showing Mame pull in your claws it's simply that
who else but a bosom buddy will notice the obvious flaws

I feel it's my duty to tell you it's time to adjust to your age, you try to be
Peg O' My Heart when your lady Macbeth.

Exactly how old are you Vera the truth
how old do you think
Oh, I'd say somewhere in between 40 and death

But sweetie
I'll always be Alice Tokeless if you'll be Gertrude Stein and though I'll admit I've dished you, I've gossiped and gloated but I'm so devoted

And if I say that sex and guts made you into a star, remember that who else but a bosom buddy will tell you how rotten you are

Just turn to your bosom buddy for age and affection for help and direction for loyalty love and for soothe remember that who else but a bosom buddy will sit down and level and give you the devil will, sit down and tell you the truth.

"Love Is Only Love":

Though it wont be like the first time
How can it be like the first time?
But why does it have to be?

Don't look for shooting stars
For love is only love

You touch and still you touch the proud
Don't listen for those bells
For love is only love

And if it's love youve found
Your heart won't hear a sound

And you hold his hand
You only hold his hand

The violins are all a bluff
But if you're really wise
The silence of his eyes
Will tell you
Love is only love

And it's wonderful enough
Without the shooting star
Without the sounds of bells
Without the violins
Love is wonderful enough!
